    Over £500,000 worth of cannabis has been seized and 11 people have been arrested after a number of cannabis farms were shut down in East Yorkshire, according to police.

    An organised crime team from Humberside Police was tipped off about the set-ups in Hull, the force says.

    The properties were on Rosemead Street, Waddington Grove, Goddard Avenue, three on Philip Larkin Close, Merchants Way and Roslyn Road.

    All were raided in the last two weeks and hundreds of cannabis plants were seized, along with £15,000 in cash and about £100,000 in equipment.

    A total of 11 people have been arrested in Hull, with nine of those being charged and in police custody.

    Det Insp Richard Osgerby said: "This haul demonstrates how we react to information provided by our communities and the enormous amount of work we are doing to disrupt organised criminality and to combat drugs cultivation in our communities."

    Police officers are to step up patrols in a North Yorkshire town after reports of people having picnics and drinking in the street despite the coronavirus lockdown.

    Police say people have been spotted in Harrogate travelling for non-essential reasons and going against government guidelines to stay at home.

    Insp Penny Taylor, from North Yorkshire Police, said: "It is really disappointing that we are having to step up our patrols in Harrogate today.

    "While we know the majority of people in the town are doing the right thing and staying at home, despite the beautiful weather, it is unacceptable that some people are showing such a blatant disregard for the government’s guidance."

    Cases of fly-tipping in East Yorkshire have continued despite the country being in lockdown, the council has said.

    Household waste sites are closed to the public as "a trip to the tip is not considered essential travel", East Riding of Yorkshire Council said.

    However, fly-tipping is still taking place with unlicensed waste collectors "taking advantage" and dumping the rubbish by the side of the road.

    The council is asking people to keep items at home until sites reopen and not give their rubbish to unlicensed collectors.

    Bin collections are continuing for household waste, it added.

    He's described as about 6ft tall, with shaved brown hair.

    Leeds-based airline Jet2 says it's looking to restart flights from mid-June.

    The company grounded all flights in March as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

    Now, the company says Jet2 it plans to recommence flights and holiday programmes on 17 June.

    It says any holidays booked between now and mid-June will be cancelled with people given the option to rebook for a later date, it said.

    The firm has asked people not to contact them, saying it will get in touch with affected customers to discuss their options.

    An investigation's been launched into the events surrounding flooding which affected homes and businesses in North and East Yorkshire earlier this year.

    In February, the country was hit by storms over three consecutive weekends, during which high winds and flooding from Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis caused widespread damage and disruption.

    In North Yorkshire's Selby district, Hirst Courtney and West Bank were badly hit. In East Yorkshire, Snaith and East and West Cowick suffered significant flooding from the River Aire.

    North Yorkshire County Council says together with Yorkshire Water, the Environment Agency and district councils, it will produce an interim report outlining how the flooding affected residents, businesses and roads in both counties.

    County Councillor Don Mackenzie, said: “The report will help those affected gain a clear understanding of events and the outcomes.”

    Neil Longden, from the Environment Agency, said: “We want the community to know although we are in unprecedented times with the Covid-19 situation, we have not forgotten about you."

    It's anticipated the report will be published by October.

    Famed pilot Johnson and her husband, Jim Mollison, were flying across the Atlantic Ocean aiming for New York to attempt a world record flight.

    However, due to a strong headwind and navigation issues, they landed short of New York, crashing near an airport in Stratford, Connecticut instead on 23 July.

    Her aeroplane, named Seafarer, was badly damaged in the crash.

    The new photos, donated to Sewerby Hall and Gardens, show the damage the day after the crash.

    The pictures will be on display at the hall when it reopens to the public, however they can be viewed now online, external.

    A murder investigation has been launched after a man died in hospital having suffered serious head injuries during an incident in Brighouse.

    The man, aged 33, from Rastrick, was found in Thornes Park, in Brighouse at about 01:35 on Monday.

    He was taken to hospital, but later died from his injuries, West Yorkshire Police say.

    The force say two men, aged 44 and 32, and a 52-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are being held in police custody.

    Det Chf Insp,Tony Nicholson, said: "A man has sadly lost his life and I want to know what happened and why.

    "If anyone saw any suspicious activity in or around Thornes Park late on Sunday night, or early on Monday morning, then please get in contact."

    Two white-tailed eagles have spent the night roosting in Yorkshire after spending several months flying all the way from the Isle of Wight.

    Forestry England and the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation are leading a project to reintroduce the birds to England, a species it says has been lost from the country for almost 240 years.

    The first group of four birds were released on the Isle of Wight last summer.

    The journey of one of the birds, a male known as G393 (red route on map and pictured above and below), has taken in Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire.

    Last Friday, after a day at Rutland Water, a stiff southerly wind encouraged the eagle to head north again.

    He crossed the Humber into Yorkshire yesterday morning, where he caught sight of another of the Isle of Wight birds, a female known as G318 (blue route on map).

    The pair then flew together before separately settling in an area of Forestry England woodland in the North York Moors National Park.

    The Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation says: "It's going to be very interesting to follow the young eagles progress over the coming weeks."

    A hospital trust has thanked staff who are doing "an outstanding job" helping patients with coronavirus after four people were discharged to recover at home.

    Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said the patients were sent home on Sunday having contracted the virus.

    They'll now continue their recovery at home.

    The trust said: "It is no understatement to say they are doing an outstanding job in these extraordinary times."

    It reiterated the message for people to stay home and help the NHS as staff work to tackle the virus.

    Plans to expand a caravan park in a village near Beverley have been approved despite concerns over it putting a strain on roads and services.

    East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Planning Committee has approved the plans for the caravan and campsite at High Farm Country Park, near Routh.

    The site would include 48 caravan spaces, 50 for static caravans and tent pitches, as well as 14 camping pods.

    Pat Ablett, chair of Leven Parish Council, which objected to the plans, said there were worries increases in traffic would place a strain on the busy A1035.

    The council’s planning and regeneration director Alan Menzies approved the plans under delegated powers in consultation with committee members.

    They were given the go-ahead on the condition that extra signs are put up on the A1035.

    Council officers had previously backed the plans in their report to the planning committee.

    They said the development was suitable, despite concerns over traffic and over-development and the site being in a flood risk zone.

    Firefighters have tackled a moorland fire near Marsden for the second time in two weeks.

    The fire broke out near to Deer Hill Reservoir yesterday evening.

    West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said at its peak the fire spread across an area 300m by 700m wide and it had ten fire engines at the scene to combat the blaze.

    It said the fire was extinguished at about 20:15 but that crew members had spent the night "damping down".

    Last month firefighters had to put out a fire at the same location after it is believed controlled burning had spread.

    Doncaster Council shared the story from 1970s America as they encouraged people to follow government guidance on social distancing.

    It said the decision to blow up the whale went "horribly wrong", spraying pieces of blubber big enough to destroy a car, but that it carried an important lesson for people about our response to Covid-19.

    The council said: "The problem hadn't gone away, only now there were thousands of bits of problem spread for miles around."

    The authority said there were three lessons to be learnt:

    1. Don't ignore the advice of experts
    2. Let nature take its course
    3. Stay home and stop being selfish.

    The post proved popular and was retweeted more than 16,000 times within a couple of hours.

    The staff from Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield were told they could park at the Francis Newton pub, a Wetherspoon's closed amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

    Many later received parking fines - some for hundreds of pounds - issued by a private company.

    JD Wetherspoon said any fines sent out would now be cancelled.

    With the closure, the charity says it's spending £6,500 a day on running costs, even with many staff being furloughed.
