More than 9,000 families across the Bradford district are to be asked about how the coronavirus is impacting their day-to-day lives.

It's led by the Born in Bradford project, one of the world's biggest research projects, which follows the progress of its members through the first 20 years of their lives.

The confidential survey will look at concerns such as job insecurity, struggles to pay bills and the rent or mortgage and whether people have been able to afford or source food they need.

Dr Josie Dickerson, who is leading the research, says: "We're in a unique position in the whole of the UK, if not the world, to be able to really find out the impact on families.

"We have such a strong research environment here in Bradford, with over 35,000 families involved in Born in Bradford at the moment."

Dr Dickerson added: “We want our Born in Bradford families to look out for an email, letter, or phone call from the research team over the next couple of weeks and to please complete the survey so we know what challenges they are facing.”

  14. Thousands raised for Sheffield's locked-down Leadmillpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 17 April 2020

A custom guitar signed by Sheffield's Arctic Monkeys has raised £7,200 for a music venue in the band's home city which is currently closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

    Leadmill

The city's famous Leadmill venue organised an online auction of memorabilia to raise funds to cover costs during the lockdown.

It closed to the public with the introduction of coronavirus restrictions by the government in March.

Other Leadmill-related items sold include signed posters and photographs, with bids exceeding the £10,000 mark.

Sam Feeley, from the venue, said the figures raised were "fantastic".

"Although government assistance will cover some costs it will not cover everything, we still have a lot of things to pay out," he added.

Mr Feeley said the auction had also resulted in staff seeing how much the venue, which opened in 1980, meant to people.

"To have support and raise money is incredible," he said.

"People have been telling us, 'I met my wife or husband there'. You forget people are making real memories at these events."

East Riding of Yorkshire Council says it's added over 700 new titles to its online library, with a surge in people taking out the books.

Downloads of the free books has increased by nearly 70% since the closure of the physical libraries two weeks ago, the authority says.

Councillor Shaun Horton said: "This virtual library is accessible at any time and means customers can download e-books, e-audiobooks and e-magazines from anywhere with an internet connection, straight to their device, meaning it's more versatile than ever before, without having to visit the library."

The books automatically cancel after three weeks so there's no risk of getting a fine.
