1. Landslip causing delays between Sheffield and Scunthorpepublished at 10:47 British Summer Time 16 June 2020

    A landslip in North Lincolnshire is causing disruption to rail services between Scunthorpe and Sheffield.

    The incident, which happened at the weekend, is affecting Northern Trains between Doncaster and Scunthorpe and TransPennine Express services between Manchester Airport and Cleethorpes.

    As a result a rail replacement bus is running in place of Transpennine Express service between Sheffield and Scunthorpe and Northern services may be delayed by up to 20 minutes or revised

    According to National Rail Enquiries there is no firm date yet for when the line will fully reopen, but Network Rail estimate that repair work will continue until at least 24 June.

    The pilot of a US Air Force fighter jet which crashed into the North Sea has been named as 1st Lt Kenneth Allen.

    Lt Allen was flying an F-15C Eagle, from the 48th Fighter Wing at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, when it crashed off the East Yorkshire coast on Monday while on a training mission.

    He had been stationed at the base since February and is survived by his wife and parents, the US Air Force said.

    Col Will Marshall said the whole unit was "deeply saddened" by his loss.

    The 26-year-old man was injured when the red Polaris Sportsman quad bike collided with a concrete pillar and metal pole near to the train station car park at about 00:45 today.

    The man is being treated in hospital, according to West Yorkshire Police.

    Officers have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision itself, or who saw the quad bike in the time leading up to it, to come forward.

    A man has been charged with murder following the death of a man at a block of flats in Leeds city centre.

    Daniel Jeffrey, 32, was found dead at Balmoral Place in Bowman Lane, Leeds, on 13 April.

    Thomas James Macken, 53, of Balmoral Place, has been charged with his murder, West Yorkshire Police say.

    He is due to appear before Leeds Magistrates' Court later today.

    There are plans to repair a decaying listed building which was once the centre of a railway disaster in the Yorkshire Dales.

    Network Rail has applied to the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, external for permission to carry out works to ensure the weatherproofing and long-term structural preservation of the signal box at Garsdale, near Sedbergh.

    It was built in 1910 and six months later, a mistake by the signalman led to the Hawes Junction Rail Disaster , externalin which 12 passengers died, a further nine were injured and eight enginemen were injured.

    A Network Rail spokesman said the repairs should ensure the weatherproofing and long-term structural preservation of the signal box, and make sure it stays in use.

    Primary school age children are showing more emotional and behavioural difficulties during lockdown, according to new research.

    The study by the University of Oxford asked parents and carers of 10,000 young people about their child's wellbeing.

    Sarah Iqbal, 11, surveyed 160 children at her school in South Yorkshire to find out how they felt during the coronavirus pandemic.

    More than eight out of 10 told her they were worried and scared.

    She said: "It's very important that we, as children, get our voices heard so that we feel calm and we know that it's safe."

    The Labour MP for Batley and Spen was shot and stabbed by far-right extremist Thomas Mair.

    Mair shouted "Britain first" in the attack, which took place a week before the EU referendum vote.

    Kim Leadbeater said it was time for people to be more tolerant and listen to the point of view of others.

    She said: "How can we still be living in a world where people are abused, attacked and killed because of the colour of their skin?"

    This was the scene in Bradford earlier today as long queues formed outside shops on the first day many have been able to reopen since the coronavirus lockdown began in March.

    Non-essential shops such as bookshops and clothes outlets have reopened in England, as lockdown restrictions are eased.

    One Bradford shopper, Andy, told BBC Radio Leeds he was finding it hard to maintain social distancing.

    He said: "It's a bit difficult because there's quite a lot of people about so it's pretty hard to stay away from them.

    "There's people moving in all different directions so I think they need to sort some other way of doing it."

    A one-way system has been introduced in York's famous Shambles shopping street in order to keep people safe as they return to the city centre with the easing of coronavirus restrictions.

    Markings have been placed on the floor to show which way shoppers can move around the narrow city centre street.

    It's being done to help people observe social distancing guidance as stores reopen for the first time since March.

    You might have seen photos on social media showing what looks like a tornado over Ingleton in the Yorkshire Dales today.

    But what actually was it?

    For this to be a tornado, it would have to reach the ground, otherwise it’s classed as a funnel cloud.

    From this photo and videos on social media, it may well be a tornado but it’s impossible to see whether it touches the ground or not.

    There’s a lot of instability in the atmosphere today, and as temperatures rise quickly sometimes the cumulonimbus clouds that result can support tornadic development, alongside thunder and lightning.

    It’s certainly not every day tornadoes are seen in our part of the world!

    The search is continuing for the pilot of a United States jet fighter which has crashed in the North Sea off East Yorkshire.

    Aircraft wreckage has been found near to where the F-15C Eagle, from the 48th Fighter Wing at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, crashed shortly after 09:30 this morning while on a training mission.

    Search and rescue teams are still looking for the pilot of the plane, which is believed to have crashed 74 nautical miles off the East Yorkshire coast.

    The cause of the crash is currently unknown.

    John Healey, the Shadow Defence Secretary and a Labour MP in South Yorkshire, has tweeted, external: "We hope the pilot is found swiftly and safely, and our thoughts are with the pilot’s family, friends and all at RAF Lakenheath. Thanks to the coastguard for their efforts."

    The RAF has also tweeted, external: "Our thoughts are with US Air Force and all at RAF Lakenheath."

    A 27-year-old man has suffered serious injuries after being stabbed in Leeds.

    West Yorkshire Police say the incident happened in Rigton Approach, in the Burmantofts area of the city, at about 22:45 on Saturday.

    The force said the man suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

    A 24-year-old man has been charged with wounding with intent and possession of knife in relation to the incident.

    With some non-essential shops reopening for the first time since March during the coronavirus, people in Leeds have had mixed views about the decision.

    The government has said from today, shops such as bookshops and clothes outlets that were previously closed can now reopen with social distancing measures in place.

    Shoppers told BBC Radio Leeds that "we need some kind of normality back or we'll be stuck in limbo for ages".

    Others said: "I don't see the need to be able to go and buy non-essential goods.

    Another added: "I think it gets the economy moving, gets people back into a sense of normality".
