    Two people have been taken to hospital after being trampled by cows while out walking in East Yorkshire.

    The man and woman were walking though farmland north of Huggate, near Driffield, when the incident happened at about 18:05 on Sunday.

    Ian Hugill, from Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team, said the man had suffered chest injuries and had to be lifted by stretcher into the air ambulance. He described the woman as "walking wounded" and said she was helped into the road ambulance.

    A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said both were taken to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment.

    Police are appealing for help finding two men who stole an entire building from a sports centre in Hull.

    The 12ft by 33ft wooden building was taken piece by piece on Wednesday, according to Humberside Police.

    Two men arrived at the sports centre, on Chanterlands Avenue, at about 09:00 and over six hours removed it in several trips in a white van.

    The men were challenged by staff at the centre.

    The incident was reported to officers once it was established that the men did not have the authority to remove the building, which is a valuable resource for the sports centre and well used by the local community, police say.

    Anybody who knows who the men could be, or who has seen the building, or who has been offered timber for sale, is being asked to get in touch with police.

    A truck displaying a message asking people to wash their hands and wear face coverings is being driven around Rotherham as coronavirus cases in the town remain high.

    Rotherham is an "enhanced" area for the virus after national data showed infections there are higher than most of the rest of the country.

    According to the latest figures, the infection rate is 14.7 per 100,000 population, external - a drop from 21.5 per 100,000 the week before.

    This makes Rotherham the 13th highest in the country, with other places in Yorkshire - Bradford, Kirklees, Calderdale and Wakefield - above it.

    The truck is "touring" the town sending out the key messages to slow down the spread of the virus, the council said.

    A video of Rotherham United manager Paul Warne asking people to keep safe is also being shown.

    Staying 2m apart and getting tested are two other messages being broadcast from the side of the truck.

    The former Leeds defender and Sheffield Wednesday manager, who was part of England's 1966 World Cup-winning side, died on 10 July aged 85.

    Royal Mail and Irish postal service An Post have collaborated for the first time to create a postmark on all stamped mail until 9 August.

    They said it was to mark his contribution to both nations, having managed Ireland at two World Cups.

    Stuart Simpson, chief executive at Royal Mail, said Charlton, who came from Ashington in Northumberland, was a "football hero" in both countries.

    In a statement, his family said he had led an "extraordinary life", and remembered him as a "thoroughly honest, kind, funny and genuine man who always had time for people".

    Viktoria Olah (pictured above) and Ester Bodgden (pictured below) were last seen on Saturday on Bradford Road, near Carr Gate, say police.

    Both are described as having long brown hair which is normally tied up, and are thought to have links to the Bradford and Huddersfield areas.

    When last seen, one of the teenagers was wearing a white jumper and pale blue ripped jeans - the other was wearing a dark blue and grey jumper, grey trousers and black and white trainers.

    Det Sgt Karl Heath said: “We are appealing for anyone who's seen Viktoria or Ester, or who knows where they are, to come forward as there are concerns for their welfare.”

    Officers from Rotherham Central Neighbourhood Policing team were called to help dismantle the set-up at a property in Masbrough.

    In total, 154 plants were seized and taken away to be destroyed.

    Writing on Twitter, the team said: "If the plants were yours and you’d like them back feel free to pop down and have a word with one of the team".

    Nobody was arrested in connection with the find, police added.

    Dog walkers in North Yorkshire are being warned to take responsibility for their pets after a spate of attacks on sheep.

    The warning follows incidents in Harrogate and Richmondshire earlier this month, when sheep were attacked in Arkengarthdale and on land near Thruscross Reservoir.

    In the first attack, a German pointer chased and attacked a ewe and a lamb, while in the second, a husky got a way from its owner and chased sheep.

    None of the attacks resulted in serious injuries and both owners were spoken to and their details taken, according to police.

    In a separate incident last month, a lamb was attacked and killed in Marton Cum Grafton.

    Matt Hagen, from North Yorkshire Police's Rural Taskforce, said: “We need dog owners to take responsibility for their animals.

    "It’s very important dogs are kept securely when at home, and on leads and under control when walking near sheep fields.”

    The use of cash in parts of the East Riding of Yorkshire have dropped dramatically because of the coronavirus pandemic, according to new research from a cash machine provider.

    It comes after businesses encouraged people to go contactless to stop the spread of the virus.

    Going contactless means shoppers only need to tap their debit or credit cards on a terminal to pay - rather than handing over notes or coins.

    Link, the company behind many of the UK's cash machines, says in the Beverley area cash withdrawals fell by as much as 72% during April.

    In Hull that figure was 50%, it added.

    There's a greater dependency on cash in underprivileged areas across the county, according to Link.

    Assistant Ch Con Oz Khan said: "Almost 7,000 people gathered in Millennium Square. A small minority of people began to throw bottles at police officers.

    "A total of nine people were arrested for public order offences.

    "It is important to remind the public we must not lose sight of the fact Covid-19 is still with us and large gatherings are still not permitted," he added.

    Sheffield is set to receive a £16m cash boost from the government to help fund flood the building of defences in the city.

    The money is being spent on schemes aimed at protecting Neepsend and Kelham in the north of the city.

    Natural flood management works, like planting trees and temporary ponds, are also taking place in the uplands to slow water coming off the hills during heavy rainfall.

    This work in the Loxley Valley is due to take place next month alongside the council and the Environment Agency.

    Councillor Mark Jones said: “This funding is welcome news for Sheffield. We have proved the importance of a strong flood defence programme, delivering the robust schemes that protected thousands of homes and hundreds of businesses during the 2019 floods.

    “Although we have seen positive results, the effects of climate change will only increase the threat of flooding and the danger to lives, homes and businesses. It is crucial we continue to urgently progress the next phases of our planned programme, and this additional funding will support us in doing so.”
