Fashion retailer Next has been given planning permission to build a new warehouse in South Elmsall, near Wakefield, in a move which it says could create around 1,000 jobs for the area.
The company will expand southwards from the distribution centre it already has off Field Lane in the town, where hundreds of people are already employed.
Next told a Wakefield Council planning meeting the plans were necessary to help meet online demand for its clothes.
The meeting was told that although the development will take place on greenbelt land, “special circumstances” dictated the plan was appropriate, given the potential economic benefit to South Elmsall.

A drive-in performance of a Christmas pantomime is scheduled to drop in on Leeds and Sheffield when it tours the UK at Christmas. Oh yes it is!
The Car Park Panto show, which is being put on by the Birmingham Stage Company, will be of Horrible Christmas, a pantomime inspired by the Horrible Histories children's book series by Terry Deary.
The pantomime will tell the story of a young boy trying to save Christmas and will also explore some of the history behind the festive season.
Audience members will have their tickets scanned through their car windows upon arrival at the outdoor venue.
Cars will then be parked more than 2m apart and audience members will watch the show from inside their vehicles, picking up sound from the performance via their radios.
Toilet facilities and food and drink will be available on site, but social distancing measures will be in place, organisers say.
Horrible Histories manager Neal Foster said: "We can't wait to be back on stage in cities and towns that will be crying out for a Christmas show to entertain their families."
Venues and dates for the performances are yet to be announced.

Read MoreFormer musicians from Sheffield Cathedral have started a new choir for them to "continue singing in exile".
The cathedral took the decision to close the choir in July.
It previously said it needed "significant change" in its music department and choir, to better serve its "mixed urban community".
The newly formed group, Steel City Choristers, said it was hopeful the choir would return to the cathedral and has launched an online campaign.
"It was deeply frustrating that the Dean and Chapter of Sheffield Cathedral refused to meet with us and provide a clear explanation for their decision to close the choir," the campaigners said.
"We are still yet to hear a convincing argument why the choir had to be closed."
The cathedral has been contacted for a comment.
Parking charges are to be reintroduced at Harrogate District Hospital, having been suspended during the height of the coronavirus pandemic.
Patients, visitors and staff will have to pay to park from 23 September, according to hospital bosses.
A hospital spokesman said the charges were being brought back after an increase in demand had led to difficulties in finding spaces.
He said: "We know this will be unwelcome, but we trust you understand the reasons why we are reintroducing parking charges.
"Parking at hospitals will always be a challenge and there is never going to be one solution everyone is happy with.
"But we have to do this to make parking as stress-free as possible for our patients and visitors, protecting spaces for them, and to make the benefit of staff car parking as fair as possible."
Residents in North Yorkshire are teaming up with police to help reduce speeding after drivers were caught doing more than double the speed limit through some areas of the county.
Recent speeds of 63mph have been recorded in a village near Scarborough which has a 30mph limit and one driver was caught travelling at 76mph in a 40mph zone in Ryedale, according to North Yorkshire Police.
In response, a total of 18 Community Speed Watch groups will now work alongside the police's safety camera van fleet and roads policing officers.
Jamie Smith, from North Yorkshire Police’s Traffic Bureau, said: “Speeds of 60mph-plus through 30mph communities are unbelievably irresponsible and clearly highlight that we need to continue doing everything we can to prevent them.
“Like us, residents are all too aware of these dangers and are fed up of motorists tearing through their communities and putting lives at risk."
The Speed Watch groups will work across the county, including in Hambleton, Scarborough, Selby, Ryedale and Harrogate.
The groups will be out on the roads later today with equipment to monitor speeds and deter speeding.
Members will also work with police to pass on information which could see drivers being prosecuted.

Read MoreHull City's crowd pilot on Saturday has been cancelled amid a rising number of Covid-19 cases in the city.
The football club was granted permission by the government to be part of a series of pilot fixtures allowed to host up to 1,000 fans.
However, the club says due to a "rising infection rate in Hull over the last two weeks", the pilot won't now go ahead at Hull's match against Crewe at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday.
The club said it was "extremely disappointed" after planning to invite about 600 supporters.
A joint statement between the council and the company which manages the stadium says the "10 public event assessment criteria" couldn't be met.
“The first of these states there can be no significant increase in the area’s coronavirus infection rate ahead of an event," the statement says.
"Unfortunately, the rate in Hull currently stands at 15.3 infections per 100,000 people, up from 4.2 per 100,000 people last week.
"Consequently, on the grounds of public health and public safety, this pilot cannot go ahead and the game will have to be played without fans in attendance.”
Building work starts this week on a £60m "transformation" of Hull Royal Infirmary.
A new entrance, assessment unit, pharmacy and shops are part of the upgrades which are set to take two years to complete.
The hospital said the work will "transform" the face of the building, which has been largely unchanged for more than 50 years.
Duncan Taylor, from Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Staff, visitors and patients will benefit from a fantastic facility at the front of the building with shops, a new restaurant and waiting facilities and overnight facilities for parents of children in our paediatric department.”

A total of 10 further coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Harrogate in the last 24 hours after a "major incident" was declared in North Yorkshire due to a sharp rise in infections.
The North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum (NYLRF) last night announced it was reinstating “full emergency mode”, saying urgent action was needed if local lockdowns were to be avoided.
The body – which is made up of officials from the police and local authorities – said the Harrogate, Scarborough, Selby and Craven districts were of particular concern.
The 10 new cases in Harrogate brings the district’s total since the start of the pandemic to 888.
It comes after Harrogate’s infection rate per 100,000 people dropped from 39.2 cases (week to 7 September) to 30 (week to 12 September).
Concerns about infections in care homes and testing capacity have also been raised by the NYLRF.
The NYLRF said it was “stepping up support” for care homes, with some being told to reintroduce visitor restrictions.
Other measures include dedicated police patrols targeting those breaking social distancing rules.
NYLRF chairman Richard Flinton said last night the situation in these areas of the county was “worrying” and people's response to this would be "critical".
Police are "urgently" trying to find a missing Doncaster woman who it's believed could have travelled to Scarborough.
Cindy Brolly, 48, was last seen at about 22:00 yesterday in the Haigh Crescent area of Stainforth.
Concerns are growing for her welfare, South Yorkshire Police said.
It's thought she may have travelled towards Scarborough on the train.
She was last seen wearing a black raincoat with black trainers and carrying a black bag.
Anybody who has seen Ms Brolly is being asked to get in touch with police.
