    A new testing site has opened in South Yorkshire so residents can get tested for coronavirus faster and more easily.

    The new seven-bay test site at the Dinnington Resource Centre car park will be able to run 252 Covid-19 tests per day – amounting to more than 1,700 tests each week.

    Councillor David Roche, from Rotherham Council, said: "The council has been working with the Department of Health and Social Care to make getting tested more readily available for those who may struggle to get into Rotherham town centre.

    "These residents, and others living in other areas of the borough, have not been forgotten about during the pandemic and we want to make sure everyone in Rotherham has access to the vital services they need, from getting tested to receiving support from the Rotherham Heroes programme to getting financial support.”

    Those wanting to get tested need to get an appointment from the NHS by either booking online or over the phone.

    A number of streets in Bradford remain closed and train services to one of the city's railway stations are disrupted due to a major tyre blaze in the city.

    Firefighters have been tackling the blaze in East Bowling since the early hours of yesterday morning, with thick smoke leading to the cancellation of trains to and from nearby Bradford Interchange.

    Writing on social media, Bradford Council said several roads remain closed today and people are being asked to avoid the area. A full list of road closures can be seen here., external

    National Rail Enquiries says disruption to train services at Bradford Interchange is expected to last until the end of today, external.

    Benji Bush, from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, praised crews who've been tackling the blaze.

    Speaking yesterday evening, he said: "They did a fantastic to get on top of the fire and get it under some control and it's taken us most of the day to really get on top of this."

    Emergency crews are asking people to continue to avoid the area, external and say they'll be keeping a close eye on the wind direction today.

  3. Sixth arrest after shots fired at car in Keighleypublished at 10:14 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2020

    Another arrest has been made following a "targeted" firearms discharge in Keighley, say police.

    The arrested man, a 21-year-old from Keighley, has since been charged with assisting an offender and possession of an offensive weapon.

    He is due to appear at Bradford Magistrates' Court later.

    Officers were called just before 10:00 on Thursday 12 November to reports of shots fired at a car on Westfell Road.

    No one was injured in the incident, according to police.

    A car the suspects used to leave the scene was later found by police.

    Four other men, aged 26, 30, 30 and 38, and a woman, aged 57, were arrested last week in connection with the attack.

    A full train timetable is running this morning following a derailment at Sheffield railway station last week.

    A total of 16 wagons carrying cement came off the track on Wednesday, 11 November, blocking the northern part of the station.

    After removing the wagons, repairing damaged signalling and replacing track, a full service is set to run today, according to Network Rail.

    Staff have worked "round the clock", it added.

    Five schools in Bradford remain closed today as up to 50 firefighters remain at the scene of a major tyre blaze in the city.

    At its height on Monday,100 firefighters tackled the fire in the East Bowling area.

    Writing on social media, external Bradford Council said the following schools would be closed again today as the fire service continues to deal with the fire in Spring Mill Street.

    West Yorkshire Fire Service says "nine fire engines and two aerial appliances are still in attendance at the fire on Upper Castle Street this morning."

    The service is advising all local residents to keep windows and doors closed, and is asking people to avoid travelling through the area.

    A 28-year-old man who died after being found injured in a Sheffield street has been named by police.

    Kamran Khan was found seriously injured outside a property at Club Garden Road in Sharrow at about 02:15 on Sunday. He died in hospital shortly afterwards.

    A post-mortem examination revealed he died as a result of a stab wound to the chest, police say.

    A 30-year-old man remains in custody after police were granted more time to question him.

    Det Insp Scott Harrison said: “I understand incidents of this nature cause great concern for local residents. I would like to reassure people this was an isolated incident and there is no risk to the wider community.

    “There will continue to be an increased police presence in the area today and throughout the week as investigations continue."

    Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police.

    The daughter of a South Yorkshire man who's been missing for a year says it's been like living in "a bad dream" as she pleads for information on the anniversary of his disappearance.

    Richard Dyson, 56, from Barnsley, was last seen walking along a road in Hoyland on 17 November 2019.

    Bethany Dainty, 20, says her father's disappearance has made the past 12 months the toughest of her life.

    She says it has been a nightmare not knowing where he is and has made a plea for help finding him.

    "All I want to know is what happened. I am certain somebody, or maybe even more than one person, knows something that will help," she says.

    Ms Dainty last saw her dad when he dropped her off in Aston, Rotherham, on 15 November 2019. He was reported missing by her 10 days later.

    "I ask you directly, and from the bottom of my heart, please, please get in touch and tell somebody what you know. I just need some answers," she adds.

    The investigation into Mr Dyson's disappearance is still active, according to South Yorkshire Police.

    Det Insp Neil Coop says: "It doesn't matter how minor you think your contribution may be, we really do want to hear from you."

    West Yorkshire fundraising legend Captain Sir Tom Moore has notched up a new accolade - becoming the oldest cover star for British GQ magazine.

    The 100-year-old, who's originally from Keighley, appears on the front of the title usually graced by Hollywood A-Listers and music stars.

    The Second World War veteran responded to being on the cover: "Well, that's something special, isn't it? And maybe next year, I'll be the oldest again!"

    And he said of his attitude to life: "Negative thoughts don't seem to be part of me. I always think of the beneficial things."

    He also spoke about raising more than £32m for the NHS by walking laps of his garden this summer.

    Capt Tom said the walking "was something I brought on myself. That blossomed into something absolutely outstanding.

    "When I started walking, I never envisioned that sort of money would appear. But I thank the whole family, and my daughter Hannah in particular, as without her this would never have blossomed as it did," he told the magazine.

    On being knighted by the Queen, he said: "I remember saying, 'I hope the Queen is gentle with this sword'."

    The former British Army officer will be honoured with the Inspiration Of The Year gong at the GQ Men Of The Year Awards 2020.

    Starting in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, the Volvo V70 driver failed to stop for police, Derbyshire Constabulary said.

    Despite having a temporary "space-saver" wheel on the front, the driver drove at 130mph on the M1 on Saturday night.

    South Yorkshire Police joined the pursuit before the car crashed into a wall in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire.

    The driver was arrested after a short foot chase, police added.

    A woman has died after suffering "significant" burns when her clothes caught fire during a house blaze in Sheffield.

    Firefighters were called at about 12:30 on Sunday to reports of a blaze at a house on New Cross Drive.

    The fire was out upon arrival but the woman, who was in her 70s, had suffered "significant burn injuries", according to South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

    It is thought the fire started when smoking materials, likely a cigarette, set the casualty’s clothes on fire, the fire service added.

    Disruption to train services in and out of Bradford as the result of a fire near one of the city's stations is now expected to last until teatime tomorrow, according to National Rail Enquiries.

    About 100 firefighters are tackling a large number of tyres on fire in East Bowling, smoke from which has led to rail services at the nearby Bradford Interchange being cancelled or diverted.

    National Rail Enquiries says, external: "Due to the size of the fire and the materials involved, the fire brigade advise they are unable to extinguish it in the short term and the focus is on containment.

    "Disruption is expected to continue until the end of the day tomorrow, Tuesday 17 November."
