York's Community Stadium is finally complete after years of delays, it's been confirmed.
City of York Council says the venue is finished and will be handed over on Friday before opening to the public on Monday 21 December.
The final safety checks have been completed and the council and operator GLL will take control of the venue on Friday, the council says.
Councillor Nigel Ayre said: "The fact we can now host World Cup rugby league next autumn shows what a game-changer this is for York.
"More importantly, we now have a stadium which can provide a platform for York City Football Club and the Knights to deliver on their serious ambitions."
The site will have an 8,000-seat stadium for York City Football Club and York City Knights, a library and community hub, York Against Cancer shop and offices, NHS outpatient services, swimming pool, gym and sports hall.
The stadium was supposed to be completed by 2012, meaning the project is now eight years overdue.
The scheme has been repeatedly delayed, with the latest setback caused by drainage issues.
Today will remain largely dry, with extended sunny spells and a moderate breeze.
This evening, cloud will build from the west, followed by a band of rain around midnight:
An East Yorkshire MP says the government faces a difficult balancing act in reviewing the coronavirus three-tier system.
The first formal review of England's system took place yesterday.
Large parts of Yorkshire are still waiting to find out whether they'll have to continue living under the toughest levels of coronavirus restrictions.
Most areas are under tier three, where pubs and restaurants have to close, with only North Yorkshire in tier two.
East Yorkshire MP Sir Greg Knight says: "The tier review is a balance between two harms, health on the one side, industry and the economy on the other.
"We all need to take care, it's better to celebrate Christmas at Easter than to find you're in hospital and not able to celebrate at all."
A formal announcement about the review is expected later today.

Waqas Ilyas, 37, was treating coronavirus patients at Hull Royal Infirmary when he fell ill in April.
After spending five weeks on an intensive care ventilator, his breathing deteriorated and he was transferred to Leicester and placed on a specialist artificial lung machine.
Dr Ilyas, who now treats non-Covid patients, said he was "90% back to normal health".
"It's probably going to take another 12 months to go back to fully normal," he said.
"As far as I know I haven't suffered any long-term consequences so far.
Before being put on the ventilator, he made an emotional phone call to his family in Pakistan and, realising the seriousness of his situation, he recalled he "kind of said goodbye" to his father.
Dr Ilyas has no recollection of his weeks of treatment in intensive care and awoke five weeks later.

A 94-year-old great-great grandmother from South Yorkshire says people will be "very silly" if they don't get the Covid-19 vaccine after she became one of the first wave of pensioners to receive the jab in the area this morning.
Joyce Dowd says she hopes the vaccination she had at a new GP-run centre in Doncaster will mean she will soon be able to see her great-great grandchild, who was born during the coronavirus pandemic, for the first time.
She has another great-great grandchild - her fourth - due in February, but Mrs Dowd, who lives in Hexthorpe, says she will not see the infants until she is sure it is safe.
"I'll see them when times are good. I'd rather them be safe and keep away because it's asking for trouble, isn't it?" she says.
"You've got to think safety-wise because it's no good if you don't. If people don't have it done, they're being very silly. At our age you can pick anything up."
Dr Kate Mansfield, a GP at the Scott Practice in Doncaster and the clinical director of Doncaster Central Primary Care Network, says it has been "a bit of a crazy week".
"It's been amazing to see just how hard everybody's been working. I'm just so proud to be part of it, just seeing how dedicated everybody is," she adds.
Katie Louise Bell is due to appear at Sheffield Magistrates' Court on 7 June, police say.

Thousands of disadvantaged children will be guaranteed free school meal vouchers during upcoming holidays following a move by Kirklees Council, it's been confirmed.
The authority has formally agreed plans to commit almost £700,000 towards free school meal support for approximately 15,500 youngsters over the two-week Christmas period and at February half-term.
Allocating £15 per eligible child per week means the funding is equivalent to £697,500. A further £790,270 will be earmarked on supporting families and individuals more generally.
In total the authority will spend about £1.5m in grant funding - made available by the government - between the start of this month and 3 March 2021.
The cash, agreed at a meeting of the council’s decision-making Cabinet, comes under the banner of the Covid Winter Grant scheme.
Council leader Shabir Pandor said: "This was an easy decision for Cabinet to make and the funding will help children to be happier and healthier, both during the festive period and beyond."
A Sheffield MP who was told she had miscarried while her partner had to wait outside due to coronavirus restrictions has backed new guidance allowing women to have someone with them during pregnancy appointments.
Previously, individual hospitals could draw up their own rules on partners being present meaning many women have been left to give birth alone during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Last month Olivia Blake (pictured), Labour MP for Sheffield Hallam, revealed she had attended an appointment by herself in August where she found out she had miscarried.
Following the latest change, she said: "This is such welcome news for pregnant women across England, many of whom up until now have been forced to go through some of the most difficult moments of their life, alone.
"I said earlier this year I didn’t want anyone else to go through what I had gone through. And now, hopefully, they won’t have to."
Ms Blake urged NHS Trusts across England to implement the new guidance "quickly and fully".
