A seasonal ban on dogs on some parts of beaches in Scarborough is set to be extended for three years.
The current Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) which places controls on where pets can be exercised expires on 7 January 2021.
However, councillors have today given their backing to extending the PSPO for another three years.
The Order includes a number of restrictions on where dogs can be walked and kept on leads.
It covers the main sections of beach at Scarborough South Bay and North Bay, Whitby West Cliff and Tate Hill, Filey and Sandsend.
The ban runs from May until the end of September each year, although it was paused this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It includes fines of £100 for a dog fouling offence and £75 for a breach of an exclusion order or a dog being off a lead.
The restrictions still require the approval of the full council when it meets again next year.

An emergency temporary court is to open in Hull in the new year to help cope with the backlog of cases which has built up during the Covid pandemic.
The Hull "Nightingale Court," which the Ministry of Justice says will be based at Hull University, follows on from other temporary courts which opened in Birmingham and Lancaster this week.
It will be followed by more in Staffordshire and Cirencester by the end of January.
The government says it is putting an extra £110m into courts system this year to help ease the pressures of Covid.
It aims to eventually have 40 extra court rooms sitting, mostly hearing family and civil cases and some criminal prosecutions where the defendant is not being held in custody.
In October, independent criminal justice analysts predicted that the backlog in crown courts alone could reach almost 195,000 cases by 2024 unless the government doubles capacity.

He now has feeling back in some of his fingers after he underwent eight hours of surgery at Leeds General Infirmary.
Mr Merritt said the accident on Friday 13 November happened in a "matter of seconds".
He said: "I've just had me arm a bit too close to the blade as it was spinning and it's caught my jumper and took me in. Before I knew it my hand was hanging to one side."
Mr Merritt, who was alone at home, started shouting for help. His neighbour Kevin Dransfield climbed over the fence to assist him.
An air ambulance was sent and a doctor from the helicopter treated him before he was rushed to hospital with a police escort.
He now faces 18 months of physiotherapy to try and regain the full use of his left hand.

Nearly one in 20 listed buildings in Leeds are "at risk" of severe neglect or decay, according to the city council.
The latest Buildings at Risk register, which is set to be discussed by councillors, lists 112 Grade I and II-listed sites in the city which are falling into disrepair.
These sites include Temple Mill in Holbeck (pictured), Calverley Old Hall in Woodhall Road and Ledston Hall in east Leeds.
It also contains 15 council-owned sites including Adel Reformatory, Stank Hall on Dewsbury Road and Abbey Mills in Kirkstall.
The report says the authority is taking “active measures” to reduce the number of buildings at risk, with prominent listed buildings set to be brought back into use soon.
These include First White Cloth Hall, Victoria Mills and the former Majestic Cinema.
The number of buildings deemed at risk has fallen since the last survey and accounts for just under 4.5% of the 2,478 listed buildings in the city, the report adds.
A man arrested twice in the same week for drug-driving is among over 50 motorists in North Yorkshire found to be driving while under the influence since the start of December, police say.
Since the start of the month, a total of 55 drivers have been arrested as part of a drink and drug-driving operation - eight of those after collisions, according to North Yorkshire Police.
One man in his 20s from Scarborough has been arrested twice, the force said.
He was arrested this morning on suspicion of drug-driving after previously being arrested on 8 December, officers added.
Traffic Sgt Andy Morton said: "Anyone who’s convicted of drink-driving faces at least a 12-month driving ban, which would mean losing your licence for the whole of 2021, possibly longer.
“Worse still, they stand a far greater chance of fatally injuring an innocent person.
“So our message this year is simple: 2020’s been a terrible year, don’t make it even worse by drink driving."
