Professor Ward said: "With this variant, it looks like the vaccines are working perfectly well, it looks like you’ll get the same sorts of disease, no worse no better. It’s just a bit more transmissible."

Plans to install two 300m zip wires in Whitby have been dropped after Scarborough Council said it could not support the proposal.
The zip lines had been proposed between the Pavilion down to the West Pier lighthouse by Barnsley-based Big Bang Promotions.
Earlier this week the proposal was criticised by Whitby and District Tourism Association, who described it as "a crass idea".

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) is to spend £15m on upgrading its helicopters.
YAA said replacing the existing aircraft (pictured above), which have been in service since 2016, will mean it can provide patients "the best operational and medical service".

A YAA spokesperson said the organisation will be the first in the UK to use the new aircraft.

The new helicopters, complete with full medical fit out, will cost approximately £15.3m.
The YAA said the upgrade is being funded through "careful financial planning and reserves" and through the sale of it's current aircraft.
