Some of the Hitachi Class 800 trains have cracks on the lifting plate, but as this is used for maintenance and not passenger journeys, regulators have agreed they are safe to return.

There has been disruption for passengers since Saturday

The rail minister warned travellers to expect disruption for "some time".

The Rail Delivery Group said Great Western Railway and London North Eastern Railway (LNER) will ramp up services.

Travellers are being advised to continue to check with their operator before they travel.

Animal rescue officer, Ollie Wilkes said: "The deep sides of the canal made it impossible for the animal to safely climb out, so the fire crew managed to pull her to safety and called the RSPCA for help.

"After I checked her over and found she was in good health the fire crew carried her in a cage to the other side of the canal and released her back into the wild.

"It was great to see her run free and I caught the moment on video."

Face coverings have been recommended since the return to school in March - but that will end on Monday as part of the phasing out of lockdown measures.

However, Louise Wallace, Director of Public Health for North Yorkshire, has said pupils in Selby should keep their masks on in the classroom due to higher than average Covid infection rates in the area.

"The Covid rate in Selby is currently higher than the England 7-day rate per 100,000 population as a result of a local outbreak," she said.

"For this reason, our advice for secondary schools in Selby is to continue the use of face coverings for staff and students in classrooms and/or communal areas until May half term."

The charges follow a series of raids in Lincoln and West Yorkshire following an investigation by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU).

Officers said the offences related to the supply of methamphetamine - known as crystal meth - and cocaine.

Seven of those charged are due before Lincoln magistrates later.

Det Ch Supt Nikki Mayo, from EMSOU, said the operation followed months of planning and officers would now continue to investigate what was believed to be "a multi-million pound illicit business".

Nine people, aged between 24 and 56, have been charged with offences relating to the import or export of class A drugs.

Five of them also stand accused of conspiracy to supply.

Another man has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker and was bailed until a court hearing on 27 May.

  8. Muslims urged not to 'drop ball' over Covid during Eidpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 13 May 2021

A senior British imam has urged Muslims not to "drop the ball" and to stick to Covid rules as Eid celebrations begin.

    Qari AsimImage source, PA Media

Qari Asim said it would be "painful" to celebrate without gathering in numbers or hugging loved ones but urged people to "take that one extra step".

He made the plea as he led prayers at the end of Ramadan at the Makkah Masjid in Leeds.

He said it was especially important given a major relaxation of rules was "just a few days away".

Lockdown rules are easing across much of the UK from Monday but under current restrictions indoor gatherings are banned and outdoor gatherings are limited to six people, or two households.

Imam Asim, chairman of the Mosques and Imams National Advisory Board, said: "This Eid will be very different in the sense that we will not be able to greet each other in the traditional way of embracing each other, hugging and handshaking with each other.

"But I'm really hopeful that next Eid we will be able to be with each other and embrace each other and share a meal with our extended family and friends."

North Yorkshire's mobile speed camera van system is to be reviewed after the county's new Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner said there were "big concerns" about their use.

Conservative Philip Allott said the review would include an examination of the locations the vans, which were first introduced in 2011.

North Yorkshire Police say the vans are deployed at accident black spots but widespread concerns have persisted for a decade that they are being sited at places to maximise the revenue they generate rather than improve safety, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service

Mr Allott said: "People say the camera vans are in the wrong locations. People say their village doesn’t get a camera van. People say there are other solutions."

He declined to elaborate on the concerns, but added: "There will be a rethink in terms of how that is handled and that will be something that involves a consultation process."
