The UK's coronavirus alert level is being lowered from four to three on the advice of experts.
The chief medical officers for England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales said the decision to downgrade was thanks to the efforts of the UK public in bringing Covid rates down.
Cases, hospitalisations and deaths have all decreased.
Although the virus is still in general circulation, transmission is no longer high or rising exponentially.
And vaccines are having the desired protective effect.
A statement from the chief medical officers for England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales as well as NHS England national medical director Stephen Powys said: "Thanks to the efforts of the UK public in social distancing, and the impact we are starting to see from the vaccination programme, case numbers, deaths and Covid hospital pressures have fallen consistently.
"However Covid is still circulating, with people catching and spreading the virus every day so we all need to continue to be vigilant. This remains a major pandemic globally.
"It is very important that we all continue to follow the guidance closely and everyone gets both doses of the vaccine when they are offered it."

We're expecting the result of the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner this afternoon.
But how does it work? BBC reporter Tom Ingall explains:
It’s day four of election counting and in Barnsley the focus is on the town's Metrodome leisure centre.
We’re an hour into the count to find out who’ll be the new Police and Crime Commissioner for South Yorkshire.
Currently it’s Labour's Dr Alan Billings. He’s standing again and is challenged by a Conservative and Liberal Democrat.
It's a preferential voting system so, if no candidate gets above 50% of the vote at the first count, the lowest place candidate is knocked out and then the second preference votes are counted.
We’re not expecting a result before 14:00.
Police officers used shields to protect members of the public after a man was seen wielding a crossbow and threatening people in Barnsley town centre.
Armed officers were sent to Peel Street at about 01:30 BST on Sunday, South Yorkshire Police said.
Supt Paul McCurry said it was a "serious and distressing incident".
"Unarmed officers on routine public order duty approached the man using their shields to protect members of the public," he said.
"Their actions resulted in the man dropping the weapon, which was safely recovered."
The man then ran from officers, climbing onto the bridge on West Way, Supt McCurry said.
"Due to the skills of officers at the scene, he was swiftly detained and brought to safety."
No-one was injured during the incident.
A 31-year-old man from the town was subsequently arrested on suspicion of public order affray and he remains in custody, the force said.
