The mother of the girl has never come forward despite an appeal to find her.

Bradford Council has arranged for a funeral service for the infant, who has since been named Daisy, at Bradford Cathedral at noon, saying "the city considers her one of our own".

The service will be followed by a burial at a nearby cemetery, with a local florist donating flowers.

  8. Cafe owner's fears over reopening as restrictions easepublished at 18:04 British Summer Time 17 May 2021

As Covid restrictions ease today, a Leeds cafe owner says she was unsure whether to open at all, despite pubs, restaurants and cafes in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire now being able to serve customers indoors.

    West Park Cafe

Jane McManus, who runs the West Park Cafe, told BBC Radio Leeds: "We did have to think about it quite a lot and I considered not doing it at all – but I think customers would’ve been up in arms if we hadn’t let them back inside.

"It’s massively worked as a takeaway. Everyone’s eating their own body weight in cake, and it’s sort of developed as the year’s gone on."

    From today:

    • Pubs, bars, cafes and restaurants are allowed to serve customers indoors
    • Groups of up to six - or two households of any size - are allowed inside
    • Groups seated outside may have up to 30 people
    • People still need to order, eat and drink while seated where alcohol is served
    • When not seated - for example being shown to a table, or going to the toilet - customers must wear face coverings

The government says it currently hopes to lift all restrictions from 21 June.

    BBC Radio Leeds

For many people in West Yorkshire, the further easing of Covid restrictions today has meant meeting friends and family they've not seen for months.

But for David Spence and John Todhunter, it's been particularly special as they've not seen each other since 1967.

John, who lives in Upton, told BBC Radio Leeds: "We were both at school when we knew each other, and we left school, both at 15, and went on with our lives."

The men, who grew up in Carlisle but now live in Yorkshire, found each other on Facebook during lockdown and discovered they still get on after more than 50 years.

David, from Robin Hood, said the easing of restrictions gave them a chance to finally meet up: "We were great friends at school, and here we are. It's been a long one this second lockdown, and it's great to have this all back again, the fact that we're nearly there, there's light at the end of the tunnel."

For John, re-connecting with his old school friend has made a big difference: "It's amazing, actually. I can't describe how I felt when I saw David on Facebook. It does mean a lot, it's fantastic."

But he says they didn't go quite as far as hugging - just yet: "We're two modern men. We fist- bumped!"
