Catalin Rizea (pictured top), 43, died in hospital two days after he was assaulted at a house in Barnsley in October 2020.

Sheffield Crown Court heard his brother, Alexandru - who had also been attacked at the property - raised the alarm after escaping through a window.

Gabriel Andrei, 41, and Florin Andrei, 45, (pictured below), also brothers, were found guilty of murder after a trial.

The court heard police were called to the property on the morning of 12 October when Alexandru Rizea stopped a passer-by saying he needed to save his brother.

When officers arrived at the address in Pinder Oakes Cottages they found the front door stained in blood and Catalin Rizea slumped on a chair inside.

The force said he was "breathing heavily" and had a coat draped over his face. He was taken to hospital but died two days later "due to catastrophic brain injuries".

A police spokesman said the Andrei brothers were also found inside the property "desperately trying to clean blood stains".

Det Ch Insp Simon Palmer who described it as an "horrific attack" said: "I applaud Alexandru for his bravery. Despite his traumatic injuries, he still did everything he could to save his brother.

The Andrei brothers were also found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. They are due to be sentenced on Thursday.

Footbridge over Lincoln's A15 Eastern Bypass

Drivers have reported children throwing bricks and stones from a footbridge over Lincoln's A15 Eastern Bypass, according to the Lincolnshire force.

Shona Nelson, whose car was damaged on the bypass near Cherry Willingham on 22 June, said: "I panicked and I screamed because it just came from nowhere."

    Damaged windscreen

Ch Insp Phil Baker said: "In other force areas, this sort of thing has resulted in the death of people travelling along.

"If a vehicle is going at 70mph and a brick goes through the windscreen, it will kill the driver."

Officers have asked for anyone who knows those involved in the stone-throwing to get in touch.

Ch Insp Baker said: "If anybody knows who the youths and children are who are going across that bridge and throwing stuff, putting people's lives in danger, please let us know."

The clinic at the Asha Neighbourhood Project, Stratford Street, Beeston, is open until 16:00.

Local NHS and Leeds City Council introduced the clinic in partnership with Women’s Lives Leeds.

It's available for women aged 18 and over, who haven't had their first dose of the vaccine.

Leeds NHS says this includes women who are unpaid carers, have an underlying health condition, or who have received a text message from their GP practice inviting them to the clinic.

Liz Grogan from the NHS in Leeds said: "We're really excited to be able to offer this women only clinic.

"We've worked closely with Women’s Lives Leeds and know there's a need for a women only clinic because of what we've been hearing from the communities."

She added: "It's also great to be having children coming along as well.

"So if people are concerned they haven't got someone to look after their children whilst they get a vaccine, please just come along and bring them with you."

Muffin, four, managed to escape from his carrier when his family moved house in Leeds and, despite his owner’s best efforts to find him, he remained missing for 12 months, the RSPCA said.

However, Animal Inspector Gemma Fowler was called to collect a cat thought to be abandoned in Harehills, Leeds, last Tuesday and found it was microchipped.

Gemma said: "We always scan animals for microchips first and foremost, and I was really surprised to discover he was indeed chipped.

“His owners were over the moon to receive my call and told me how Muffin had escaped during their house move almost a year ago.

"They were delighted he’d been found, and amazingly, it was just 10 minutes away from their home now, and on the very road where another family member lived."

Toni Myers, Muffin’s owner, said: "We’re so pleased to have Muffin back, my nine-year-old daughter cried when she heard he’d been found.

"Muffin’s been sleeping on her bed since he came home, and although he’ll take some time to gain weight and recover from the cat flu he caught while he was missing, he seems happy in the new home."

The Leeds-based supermarket said it will become the first grocer to offer its full online product range, with customers living within a three-mile radius of its stores in Halifax, Rotherham and Poole in Dorset the first to try it.

Rivals, including Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsbury's already offer one-hour - or faster - delivery services through Deliveroo, Uber Eats, Amazon and other providers - although none offer a full range of products.

Shoppers can order up to 70 items and have them delivered within an hour, or buy an unlimited basket which can be delivered with a four-hour window, Asda said.

If popular, bosses hope to roll it out the £8.50 service to more customers at other stores.

The out-of-hours GP service also returns at the site today, with a walk-in service from 18:00 to 22:00.

ULHT Chief Executive, Andrew Morgan, said: "These temporary changes were introduced so we could safely provide more urgent elective care during the global pandemic whilst minimising the risk of infection where possible.

"We always said these changes would be temporary and following a review of the clinical evidence, we are confident we are now in a position to safely resume the full range of services to support our patients and population."

The attack happened at about 21:15 on 26 June after a number of people had congregated near the river, according to North Yorkshire Police.

Two males aged 16 and 18, have been arrested and released from police custody while an investigation into the incident takes place.

Insp Lee Pointon said: "While we can’t have a permanent presence in any one area, we are aware Millennium Bridge is one of the areas where large groups sometimes congregate.

"For this reason, it’s one of several areas of York that are subject to dispersal orders."

  16. Scarborough school closes amid rise in resort Covid casespublished at 16:51 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

    Local Democracy Reporting Service

A secondary school in Scarborough has closed for 10 days amid a coronavirus outbreak as infection rates in the North Yorkshire seaside resort continue to rise.

    Graham SchoolImage source, Google

Graham School, which has about 1,000 pupils, will undergo a deep clean before reopening next Tuesday.

North Yorkshire's director of public health, Louise Wallace, said it had been a "difficult" decision.

The move comes as a community group said children sent home from school due to outbreaks were not isolating.

Ms Wallace said Graham School was made aware last week of a number of positive coronavirus cases as a result of routine lateral flow testing, which were later confirmed with PCR tests.

She added: "Since then, more positive cases have been reported to the school.

"In order to prioritise quality of education as well as the health and wellbeing of staff and students, Hope Learning Trust decided to close the school temporarily, in conjunction with North Yorkshire County Council and Public Health England."

The school closed on Friday and will remain closed until Tuesday 6 July, with classes moving to remote learning.

The borough's seven-day infection rate per 100,000 people now stands at 121, up from 94 yesterday and by almost 100 on this time last week.

Scarborough Sixth Form College has also moved to online learning for its students until 6 July due to a "significant number" of students having to isolate.

  18. England v Germany: The view from Leeds' twin townpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 29 June 2021

Ahead of England's crunch Euro 2020 game tonight with Germany, we've been speaking to people living in towns and cities in Germany which just happen to be twinned with those in Yorkshire.

Leeds has had connections with Dortmund for over 50 years, as an understanding between communities and to promote peace and cooperation between the nations, Leeds City Council leader James Lewis says.

It means that in Dortmund there is a square dedicated to the city of Leeds and in Leeds, there is the Barrel Man statue in Dortmund Square, off the Headrow, which was a present from the German city.

The Lord Mayor of Dortmund, Alexandra Kogelheide, says a red phone box can be found at Platz von Leeds - which is a gift from Yorkshire.

Ahead of the game tonight, Ms Kogelheide says she will be watching and hoping for a Germany win.

She says playing at Wembley Stadium might be a good sign for the Germans as England has not been able to beat Germany there since 1975...though she also references England's famous victory against West Germany at Wembley in the 1966 World Cup final.

Borussia Dortmund players Jadon Sancho and birthday boy Jude Bellingham make Ms Kogelheide "proud", representing the Bundesliga and England internationally

"I would like to mention that Borussia Dortmund established its own connection between Leeds and Dortmund with its player Erling Haaland, who was born in Leeds and is now playing successfully at Borussia Dortmund," Ms Kogelheide says.

She adds that she hopes this evening's match will be "exciting".

Leeds United season ticket holder Councillor Lewis says he dreads the thought of the match going to penalties, but feels England could end up winning the game.

"I’ll be watching the game tonight and it’s the knock-out stages, so a must-win. But whatever happens, I’ll raise a glass to our friends in Dortmund," he adds.

The South Park station for ambulance, fire and police teams in Lincoln has been running since the end of 2019, but the Covid pandemic delayed yesterday's opening ceremony.

The £21m tri-service emergency centre, known as the Blue Light Campus, is described as "a ground-breaking example of exceptional collaborative working".

It's funded by Lincolnshire County Council and the Police and Crime Commissioner and £7.5m also came from the government.

As part of the tour, Princess Anne met Police Dog Frankie (pictured above) and was told about the role he plays in searches for drugs, cash and firearms.
