The victim suffered "serious stab wounds" in an attack on High Street at about 16:50 on Wednesday, according to South Yorkshire Police.
An investigation has been launched into the incident and a cordon is in place at the scene.
Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact police.
The fire service says the blaze is in the roof of the restaurant at a York retail park.

Firefighters were called to Silvergarth at about 17:10 on Wednesday after being alerted by a passer-by.

A "suspect package" found at Asda's head office in Leeds turned out to be a parcel containing electrical items returned by a customer, say police.
Asda House, in Great Wilson Street, was evacuated and a police cordon put in place shortly after 11:00 after the package was discovered among items of mail.
West Yorkshire Police said on examination by Army bomb disposal experts, however, the item was found to contain returned electrical items.
The force said the cordon has now been lifted and surrounding roads have been reopened.
A prison governor is due to face questions from councillors later about plans for a new "mega prison" in East Yorkshire.
The 1,440-inmate jail at Full Sutton was given planning permission by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
The jail - where a Category C facility will be built alongside the current maximum security Category A and B wings - is part of government plans for 10,000 new prison places nationally and was approved in 2019.
More than 2,800 objections to it were lodged, including from police.
The existing HMP Full Sutton facility has a capacity for about 500 male inmates.
The new Category C prison is being built under plans to enable inmates to integrate back into the community ahead of their release.
Prison governor Gareth Sands is meeting East Riding councillors to discuss the expansion plans later.
The Ministry of Justice is expected to release further details of the scheme later in the year.
A man has died after the car he was driving collided with a double-decker bus in Halifax.
The 20-year-old man was killed when the black Audi A3 he was driving collided with a bus on Godley Lane, in the Stump Cross area, shortly after 21:30 last night.
West Yorkshire Police is appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dash cam footage to come forward.

York City and England fan Vicky Fenwick watched the match at home with her husband, who's a Leeds United fan.
She said: "I'm a York City fan so I'm used to disappointment and when Denmark scored I thought 'oh no, that's it,' but they've ticked every box so far, it's beyond nerve-wracking."

West Yorkshire Police say Asda House, in Great Wilson Street, Leeds, was evacuated after the package was received n the post this morning.
A police spokesperson said a cordon has been put in place around the building as a safety precaution and Great Wilson Street and Neville Street have been closed.
People are being advised to avoid the area.

Huddersfield Giants back-rower Kenny Edwards has been banned for 10 games after he made inappropriate contact with the backside of Catalans prop Sam Kasiano in their Super League defeat.
Edwards was found guilty of the incident at an independent hearing tribunal and also fined £500.
The offence was similar to those which previously saw bans for John Hopoate, and Joel Tomkins.
He will miss all but three of the Giants' remaining fixtures.
Edwards' penalty was increased as the panel takes into account a player's previous disciplinary history.
As this was cited as a charge of the most serious grading, the penalty and judgement was decided by an independent hearing rather than by the Rugby Football League's disciplinary department.
The mum of murdered Hull student Libby Squire is due to meet the government today to call for a change in the law to protect women from harm.
Libby, 21, was raped and murdered by Pawel Relowicz, who had a history of spying on female students in Hull and committing indecent acts in the street.
Her mother, Lisa Squire, along with Hull North MP Diana Johnson, wants to see low-level sex offenders offered therapy to prevent their crimes escalating.
She's due to meet Home Office minister Victoria Atkins later to discuss the idea.
Lisa Squire (pictured above), said: "We know these are gateway crimes and it's not normal behaviour for a man to be out on the streets exposing himself to women or watching women in the privacy of their own homes.
"So for me it's really important that we stop these people and we're proposing treatment for these people because it's just another aspect of keeping women safer."
Planned elective operations at hospitals in Leeds are being postponed due to staff dealing with a rise in Covid 19 patients, it's been confirmed.
Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said there was a "significant demand" for services including in the emergency departments.
It runs eight hospitals including Leeds General Infirmary and St James's.
Hospital bosses said the postponements meant patients requiring urgent medical treatment were prioritised.
Dr Phil Wood, chief medical officer at the trust, said: "Drawing on experience from previous waves of the pandemic, we are enacting plans to help us treat increased numbers of Covid admissions while still providing care to those patients waiting for scheduled operations.
"We are constantly reviewing the situation and we are committed to achieving timely and safe care for all our patients."
More police patrols at "violent hotspots" in South Yorkshire are being introduced following funding of £1m to tackle violent crime, it's been confirmed.
The money from the Home Office was awarded to support police action in areas of the UK with the highest reported rates of violence.
Supt Colin McFarlane from South Yorkshire Police said: "In response to this funding we've introduced targeted patrols across the county, in addition to the usual neighbourhood policing activity that communities will be used to seeing."
Dr Alan Billings, South Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner, said: "This was a joint bid between my Violence Reduction Unit and the force’s Serious Violence Crime Task Force.
"The money will be used to tackle violent crime in South Yorkshire’s hotspot areas.
"However, if we are to rid South Yorkshire of serious violence, we need a two pronged approach: we must come down heavily on the organised crime gangs.
"We also need to divert young people away from involvement with gangs and violence in the first place."

The force said: "It's semi-final day - we’re hoping for a win and we’re also hoping everyone heading out to watch the game stays safe."
Officers have appealed to fans to "takes care of themselves and each other and be respectful to both the people and surroundings around them."

The mother of a two-month-old baby with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) has said her son is "doing OK" after he became one of the first patients in England to receive the "world's most expensive drug".
Mother Gunita said baby Markuss, who has Type 1 SMA, slept through the one-off, hour-long gene-therapy treatment with the potentially life-saving drug Zolgensma at Sheffield Children's Hospital.
She thanked everyone at the hospital - which is one of four centres in England approved for the use of the drug for the treatment of Type 1 SMA - for saving her son's life.
Gunita, from York, said: "Markuss was tested at our local hospital and they told me he had Type 1 SMA - a rare and often fatal genetic disease which causes paralysis, muscle weakness and progressive loss of movement.
"Two weeks after that, we were in the hospital having the gene-therapy treatment.
"Everyone at Sheffield Children's Hospital has been just awesome. I'd like to say thank you to everyone for saving his life."
A hospital spokeswoman said Zolgensma, which has a list price of £1.79m per dose can provide improvement in motor function and prolong the lives of children with a specific type of SMA.
Jeff Perring, medical director at Sheffield Children's Hospital, said: "We are delighted to be able to offer this treatment to young patients affected by spinal muscular atrophy.
"This treatment will really improve the quality of life for these children and we're proud to be part of this great advance in treatment using gene therapy."
