    A woman has been taken to hospital and a number of people given medical treatement after a tram and an HGV collided in Sheffield.

    South Yorkshire Police say the collision happened at about 12.10 on Cricket Inn Road.

    The force say Bernard Street, Cricket Inn Road, Nunnery Square, Park Square Roundabout and Effingham Street are currently closed and has advised people to avoid the area.

    A new exhibition exploring the phenomenon of sound has opened in Bradford.

    Sound Season, external is a series of events running at the National Science and Media Museum during the summer holidays, which will allow visitors to experiment with noise, and learn about how sound fills our world.

    Exhibition curator Annie Jamieson said: "One of the things that people will really enjoy is an experience we're calling our 'sound canal' - a very heavily acoustically insulated area that will really highlight how the shape of spaces and the material of spaces change the way we hear things."

    Nurses may consider industrial action over the offer to the NHS in England and Wales, a union has previously said.

    Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng acknowledged the hard work of NHS staff and said he felt the 3% rise was fair.

    The school bell at a primary school with just six pupils will ring for the final time today after more than 200 years.

    Kell Bank Primary, near Masham, has been educating children since 1820 but, with two of the remaining pupils set to move on to secondary school this summer, North Yorkshire County Council says it is no longer viable to keep it running.

    Chair of the school governors Jeff Loveday said the decline in farming in the area and amount of people moving away meant the number of pupils had fallen too low for the school to stay open.

    "It's a bit strange, a little bit unreal," he said.

    "Although we prepared for this moment it's arrived and it doesn't feel real."

    He said the remaining four pupils had found places in other nearby schools.

    Thousands of people are heading to Sheffield today for the Tramlines festival at Hillsborough Park.

    The three-day music festival, which was postponed in 2020, will operate at full-capacity as part of the government's Events Research Programme, external.

    Gates open at midday with festival-goers either needing to provide proof of having had both doses of the vaccine or show a recent negative lateral flow test.

    Royal Blood, Supergrass and The Streets are among the acts set to perform over the weekend.

    A 19-year-old man has died after getting into difficulties in a river in the Yorkshire Dales.

    Emergency services were called to Grassington Bridge, near Skipton, at about 19:45 on Thursday after reports of a man in trouble in the River Wharfe.

    Martin Renton from Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue told BBC Radio York that when he arrived at the scene the man had been pulled from the water by the emergency services.

    "The ambulance crews were working furiously to save his life, but sadly they didn’t succeed,” he said.

    The rescue attempt came just hours after a 55-year-old man died after being rescued from the sea near Filey.

    North Yorkshire Police say inquiries are ongoing into both incidents.

    A 55-year-old man has died after getting into difficulty in the sea off the coast near Filey.

    Emergency services and the coastguard were called to Reighton Sands at about 14:00 on Thursday after reports three people were in trouble.

    North Yorkshire Police say the man was rescued by the RNLI along with two teenagers but died a short time later.

    The two teenagers were taken to hospital for treatment.

    The force say inquiries into the incident are ongoing.

    Six new short films celebrating Bradford are being shown for the first time at the city's National Science and Media Museum.

    The world premiere of Make:Film, external comes in the week that Bradford has submitted its expression of interest to become UK City of Culture 2025.

    The films and documentaries are all about challenging perceptions of Bradford.

    The director of the bid, Richard Shaw, says: "It gives people from Bradford the chance to tell their story about why they live here and what they like about the arts and culture in the district."

    Wakefield has also submitted a bid to be chosen as UK City of Culture 2025.

    The bids that are successfully shortlisted by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport will be notified in September.

    Trams will not pick up passengers near Sheffield's Tramlines music festival this weekend after a "surge" in drivers being told to self-isolate.

    While a normal tram service to the site in Hillsborough is planned throughout the day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, services in the evening will start and terminate two miles away at Shalesmoor.

    This is after Stagecoach Supertram said it had fewer staff because of a surge in employees being contacted through test and trace.

    All tram services from about 21:00 on Friday and Saturday and 20:00 on Sunday are affected but buses will continue to run, South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) said.

    Tim Taylor, director of customer services from SYPTE, said: "Festival-goers planning to travel by public transport can be confident the network remains safe and clean.

    "But bus services after the event are likely to be busier and journeys might take longer, so please plan ahead and make alternative arrangements where you can."

    Video shows a car being followed by police and then leaving the road and careering onto the forecourt of Enkae Prestige Motors, Huddersfield.

    An Audi and two Mercedes cars bore the brunt of the damage in the crash, which happened on Blackmoorfoot Road in Crosland Moor on 13 July.

    Two men who were arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, drugs offences, dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen and failing to stop for police, have been released under investigation, according to West Yorkshire Police.

    A man and a woman have been arrested after shots were fired in South Yorkshire earlier.

    Police were called at about 02:00 this morning after reports of shots being fired at the junction of Kilnhurst Road and Lime Tree Crescent in Rawmarsh, near Rotherham.

    A 46-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman were subsequently arrested in connection with the incident in which no-one was injured, according to South Yorkshire Police.

    Det Ch Insp Paul Murphy says the incident is believed to have been "targeted" and officers have "no cause to believe there is an ongoing risk to the wider public".

    "If you have any information which could assist the investigation, please report it as a matter of urgency by speaking to an officer," he adds.

    There will be an "enhanced policing presence" in the area today and officers will be carrying out house-to-house inquiries, police say.

    A runner has raised over £11,000 to support the refurbishment of a cancer ward at a children's hospital in Sheffield.

    Julie Bembridge, from Dronfield, Derbyshire, is raising money to improve a ward at Sheffield Children's Hospital - whose staff have helped care for her son following his leukaemia diagnosis.

    She hopes to run 100 miles in 24 hours non-stop with the money raised going towards caring for children and teenagers with cancer and blood disorders.

    Her son, Stan, 16, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia just before Christmas in 2017 and fought the disease over three years.

    With his successful treatment now finished, Ms Bembridge wanted to raise money to support the hospital with her 100-mile challenge, finishing on Saturday which is her 51st birthday.

    She said: "This challenge is to honour all the children treated for cancer that we have got to know over the last three years.

    "It's for those children we knew who so very sadly died from cancer. It's the biggest thank you to all the staff involved who have cared for Stan and helped us as a family.

    "And of course this is for my son Stan, who has shown so much courage and strength of character throughout that I couldn't be any more proud of him."

    A total of 762 people have been seen swimming, or intending to swim, in Yorkshire Water's reservoirs in the space of just one week, the firm says.

    It comes days after four people, including a 15-year-old boy, died in the region's waterways during the recent hot weather.

    These figures relate to the period between 11 and 18 July and cover 14 of Yorkshire Water's 130 reservoirs. Some of those seen swimming were unaccompanied children, the firm says.

    Gaynor Craigie, head of land and property with the company, says, "We know the true number of people entering reservoirs across the region will be much greater.

    " We would urge people not to take risks by getting into the water for any reason."
