Wakefield District City of Sanctuary, external says it has been inundated with donations of clothing.

So far, a very small number of families has arrived in Wakefield, but more are expected in the coming months.

The group says it is particularly keen to receive cash donations, and new clothes - but says second-hand items are less useful. It also wants to ensure people are able to stay connected to their extended families, once they arrive in Britain.

Mr Davies said: "We're also looking for good used phones. They're particularly valuable for the people arriving, because it's so precious to be able to talk to family, wherever they are in the world."
