West Yorkshire Police has been described as "outstanding" in a new independent report.
The force has been ranked "outstanding" in four areas, "good" in four areas and "adequate" in two areas, by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services.
The appraisal said the force is "outstanding" at preventing crime and anti-social behaviour, treating the public fairly, disrupting serious and organised crime and at providing value for money.
The inspection said West Yorkshire Police is "good" at how it responds to the public, protecting vulnerable people, managing offenders and suspects and at supporting its workforce.
Meanwhile, the report rated the force’s call handling as "adequate" and said it effectively pursues offenders and suspects.
West Yorkshire Police Chief Constable John Robins (pictured) said: “This is the best inspection report in our history.
"The women and men of West Yorkshire Police deserve the credit for this outstanding performance."

Enough money has been raised for Leeds to stage trials of a new cannabis-based drug which could help people suffering from brain tumours.
The trial is being supported by Olympic gold medallist Tom Daley, whose dad died from a brain tumour.
Experts hope it will eventually help increase survival rates for people with the most deadly form of brain cancer, glioblastoma. More than 2,000 people are diagnosed with it every year in England alone.
The Brain Tumour Charity has raised £400,000 to start trialing a mouth spray called Sativex. in partnership with the University of Leeds.
Professor Susan Short, professor of clinical oncology and neuro oncology, said: "It's a very specific combination of cannabinoid drugs and it looks like it works by causing the cancer cells to become stressed, pushing them into dying, instead of the cells trying to repair the damage that the chemotherapy has done."
"These types of drugs haven't really been used in cancer treatments up until now."

Parts of the region prone to flooding are being advised to prepare for a wet winter, by the Met Office.

Will Lang, head of civil contingencies at the Met Office says: "Winters in the UK usually include a wide variety of weather and this winter looks to be no exception.
"However, when looking at the big global drivers that impact weather in the UK there are indications this winter could be wetter than normal."
Mytholmroyd (pictured) is one of the places that's been badly affected in recent years, and the local Slow the Flow group is also advising people to be prepared.
Katie Kimber, from the group, told BBC Radio Leeds: "Here things happen incredibly fast, so if we're not prepared in good time, then we simply can't prepare properly.
"So we're really urging people to take the time to look at their flood measures, put flood measures in, and pay attention to the Met Office warnings and what's happening with the weather on any particular day."
