    Police have issued an appeal for witnesses after a woman in her 60s was seriously injured when the motorbike she was riding was hit by a car in North Yorkshire.

    A white Toyota car and a Kawasaki motorcycle collided on the A64 near Malton, at the junction with the B1258 (the Yedingham Road) on Saturday, at about 16:30, police said.

    The rider of the motorcycle, a 62-year-old woman from Scarborough, suffered serious multiple injuries and was airlifted to hospital where she remains in a "serious but stable condition," according to North Yorkshire Police.

    The driver of the Toyota, a 71-year-old man from Ryedale was not injured.

    Anyone who saw the crash, saw either vehicle before it, or who has dashcam footage from the area at the time, is asked to contact police.

    A man has been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man in a pub in Sheffield on Boxing Day, police have said.

    Macaulay Byrne (pictured), 26, also known as Coley, was attacked in the Gypsy Queen pub in Beighton, Sheffield, at about 22:00.

    A post-mortem examination showed he died from multiple stab wounds and the case is being treated as murder.

    Layton Morris, 24, of Sidney Street in Rotherham, has been charged with assisting an offender. He is due to appear at Sheffield Magistrates' Court today.

    Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact police.

    One of Scarborough's most popular visitor attractions has closed for three months for major engineering and refurbishment work.

    The town's Central Tramway, external was built in 1881 and links the town centre with the seafront.

    It is one of the oldest cliff railways still running in the UK, and has the distinction of being the oldest tramway company in the country as the original corporation still operates the business today.

    Amy Bartle, from the family that runs the tramway, told BBC Radio York: "This is really essential work, last year we celebrated our 140th anniversary and really we want to guarantee the future of the tramway for another 140 years."

    The tramway had a new computer drive system installed in 2020, but now the carriages are going to be removed from the track by a huge crane and taken to a specialist company in South Yorkshire that will transform them for the 21st Century.

    The work is due to be completed by Easter.

    A buzzard which was hit by a car and then became wedged behind its front radiator grille overnight has been released back into the wild, the RSPCA said.

    A motorist in Harrogate realised the bird was trapped in her Jaguar car on 28 December, according to RSPCA inspector, Claire Little.

    The woman had been travelling home the previous evening and felt a bump when driving.

    She later realised her car had struck the bird of prey which had then become trapped.

    Claire said: "I went along and was able to carefully remove the bird from the front grille of the car by removing some parts.

    "I then checked her over and amazingly she didn’t seem injured - she just had a few ruffled feathers but no cuts on her body."

    The buzzard was released back into the wild on New Year’s Day (press play on the video above to see the bird fly off).

    Claire said: "It was a great moment to watch her happily fly off as I released her."

    The impressive topiary spotted on Mount Road in Marsden, features four felines wearing collars made of tinsel.

    The animals were meticulously clipped outside the terraced house, with photographer Gary Fitton saying it was "the best hedge ever".

    Firefighters have left the scene of a blaze which burnt out a four-storey building in Bradford.

    West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service sent 15 fire engines to Sunbridge Road following reports of the fire shortly after 01:30 on Monday.

    A number of roads in and around the city centre were closed while crews brought the flames under control.

    Writing on social media, external earlier the service said the incident is now closed and thanked residents for their patience while it was dealt with.

    Plans for a series of new flag poles to be erected in nine locations around Lincolnshire will encourage people to have pride in where they live, according to a council boss.

    Lincolnshire County Council has already put in planning applications to City of Lincoln Council to install 20ft (6m) glass fibre poles at the Lincoln County Emergency Centre, North Lincolnshire Fire Station and the Myle Cross Centre.

    Other planned locations for flag poles include:

    • Boston Carlton Road Centre
    • Boston Fire Station
    • Grantham Fire Station
    • Louth Keily House
    • Skegness Fire Station
    • Stamford DC and Registration office

    Lincolnshire County Council leader Martin Hill said the aim was to "encourage everyone to have pride in where they live".

    He added: "We have so much to celebrate as a county and as a nation.

    "This will particularly be the case in 2022 with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and plans for enhanced Lincolnshire Day celebrations.

    "Flag-raising is just one way we will mark these and other events, but it’s symbolic of our proud history and strong future."

    Deliveries of construction materials for the temporary Nightingale unit at St James' University Hospital are expected today, as hospitals across England prepare for a potential wave of Omicron admissions, the NHS has said.

    The unit, which will be able to accommodate about 100 patients, is one of eight being set up across the UK.

    Dr Brian McGregor, from the BMA Yorkshire Regional Council, said: "Each bed takes two to three staff to run it.

    "The workforce that can work is working and how we cover staffing of these units is going to be the most important part, because you're going to be taking staff away from other pathways and other workload.

    "So we're going to find ourselves falling further behind on our routine work."

    Health Secretary Sajid Javid said last week he hoped the new hubs "will not have to be used" but that it was right to prepare for all scenarios.

    A pedestrian who died after being hit by a car as he crossed a road in Leeds has been named by police.

    Louis Myers, 20, was struck by a blue Vauxhall Crossland while crossing the A64 York Road near to Moresdale Lane, in Killingbeck, external, police said.

    He died in hospital from his injuries shortly after the collision at about 17:20 on Thursday.

    Police continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward.

    An adult and a child have been taken to hospital after a fire at a house in Halifax.

    Firefighters from Halifax, Illingworth and Rastrick fire stations were called to the blaze in a freezer in the cellar of a property on Jubilee Road just before 05:30, according to West Yorkshire Fire Service.
