Andy from Helmsley spoke to BBC Radio York after the prime minister apologised for going to the event, with about 30 others, when people in England were only allowed to meet one person outside.

Andy said: "I didn't see my father for weeks, months and then I get told parties are going on at Downing Street.

"The Covid law was being broken by people down in London, including the PM and I think the party is over, he's got to do the decent thing and he's got to resign."

Andy's father passed away in August 2020.

Some senior politicians in the Conservative Party have also called on Boris Johnson to quit as prime minister.

But Mr Johnson has said he thought the gathering was a work event and we should wait for the outcome of an investigation into what happened.

It has since emerged Downing Street staff held two other parties the night before Prince Philip's funeral - at a time when Covid restrictions banned indoor mixing.

The Chancellor and North Yorkshire MP Rishi Sunak has said the Prime Minister was right to apologise and he supports his request for patience while the inquiry is carried out.

It's hoped the funding of £1,040,000 will enable councils to identify what's stopping people accessing accurate information.

It'll also be used by Community Vaccine Champions, external to provide support, such as phone calls for people without easy access to digital technology, helplines, and contact with GP surgeries, the government said.

Communities Minister Kemi Badenoch said: "By funding an army of volunteers at the heart of their communities we can reach those yet to be vaccinated and encourage them to protect themselves and the NHS."

Chart of vaccine take up by English region.

Vaccines Minister Maggie Throup said: "We know some people are more likely to listen to those they trust, such as community leaders - that’s why we're giving extra funding to our Community Champions."

With nine in 10 of those aged 12 or over in the UK having had a single jab and eight in 10 having had a second, the country has shifted its focus to boosters.

Although more than 34 million boosters, or third doses, have been given so far, the government says more people should come forward to help the country "ride out" the Omicron wave without the need for further restrictions.

Chaplains working at the Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham and the Hull Royal Infirmary had been hand delivering messages to patients who were unable to communicate with their families due to Covid visiting restrictions.

Allison Dean, senior site chaplain, says: "Not all patients have mobile phones to be able to use in hospital or are up to speed with video calling, so for those who have no other means of keeping in touch, it can be a very difficult and worrying time.

“Many of those patients we went to see were pleasantly surprised as they were feeling lonely without any visitors, and for those we were able to visit on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, the contact proved to be the highlight of their day."

The service, which has seen messages sent from as far away as Canada, will operate Monday to Friday across both hospital sites.

Leah (pictured on the left above) died, aged, 15, after taking MDMA in 2019.

Her mum, Kerry Roberts, from Northallerton, wants the government to make selling drugs to under 16s a specific offence, creating what would be known as "Leah's Law".

The written question is from Thirsk and Malton Conservative MP Kevin Hollinrake.

He is asking justice secretary Dominic Raab if the government has any current plans for that law change to be made.

Ms Roberts told BBC Radio York: "He's asking the justice secretary if this is already in the pipeline because it's really about modernising the law.

"I'm not going to stop because I need to make it clear it needs to happen."

Two teenagers who admitted supplying a drug that killed Leah were detained in young offenders institutions in 2020.

The highways authority said it would focus spending its road safety funding in areas it could make a bigger impact.

But councillors said a targeted approach to low-speed zones should be continued, as a blanket approach could cost up to £12m to introduce, leading to a council tax increase.

A meeting of North Yorkshire County Council’s executive heard from pressure groups, parish councils and residents who claimed the authority was out of step with a desire to lower 30mph limits in towns and villages.

Ian Conlon, of the 20s Plenty campaign, told the meeting 59 parish councils in the county had voted for 20mph limit

Mick Johnston, of Thirsk and Malton Labour Party, said the council needed to undertake a "radical rethink" and end the "interminable process of application an assessment" for residents wanting 20mph zones introduced.

Officers said North Yorkshire’s policy was consistent with national guidelines and that the review had been thorough.

The council’s executive member for access, Don Mackenzie, said the county’s roads were becoming safer and safer, and 20mph zones should only be created on a case by case basis.
