    One of the biggest singers and performers in the world is coming to North Yorkshire this summer.

    Christina Aguilera has announced she’s heading back to the UK for three headline shows this August - including a date on the Yorkshire coast.

    She will perform at Scarborough Open Air Theatre, external on 2 August, before continuing onto Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena on 3 August and London’s The O2 Arena on 5 August.

    The singer follows in the footsteps Britney Spears in 2018 and Kylie in 2019.

    The Open Air Theatre’s live music programmer Peter Taylor says he is delighted to be bringing another global star to the venue.

    He said: “Christina Aguilera is a music superstar and true global icon and we are absolutely thrilled to announce she is coming to Scarborough this summer."

    Tickets go on general sale on Friday 4 February.

    Two men have been arrested after a man was injured following gunshots in Rotherham, police say.

    Officers were called to reports of a firearms discharge on Alpha Road at about 13:45 on Thursday.

    A 40-year-old man was taken to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening, according to South Yorkshire Police.

    Two men, aged 40 and 21, have been arrested on suspicion of public order offences and are being held in police custody.

    A 73-year-old pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in a village near Lincoln, police say.

    A Silver Hyundai collided with the man on the A46 Welton Road in Nettleham at about 12:30 on Thursday, according to Lincolnshire Police.

    The man was treated by the ambulance service, but died at the scene.

    Anyone who saw the collision, saw the man in the moments leading up to the crash, or has dashcam footage from the area at the time, is asked to contact police.

    Firefighters are still at the scene of a huge blaze in Lincolnshire involving thousands of straw bales.

    The fire on Learoyd Road in Hemswell Cliff near Gainsborough broke out at about 13:00 on Thursday.

    It engulfed more than 30,000 bales, according to Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service.

    People in the area are being advised to "close doors and windows due to smoke drift".

    The site is a former RAF bomber base which closed in 1967 and was converted into industrial and agricultural use.

    The number of stalking and harassment cases recorded by police across Yorkshire and the Humber has increased by 15% in one year, according to new figures.

    There were 85,552 reports in the year to September, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics.

    North Yorkshire recorded the highest percentage increase - with 26% more cases than the previous 12-month period.

    Overall, crime in Yorkshire and the Humber, excluding fraud, has fallen by 2%, during a period which included national coronavirus lockdowns.

    However, there were increases across the region in public order offences, drug-related crimes and the possession of weapons.

    In West Yorkshire, there was a significant drop in the number of house burglaries recorded - down 27% in a year to 9,536 cases.

    West Yorkshire Chief Constable John Robins said: “I am pleased with the continued long-term reduction in crime, particularly acquisitive crimes, offences such as burglary, robbery and vehicle crime.

    “Our officers, staff and volunteers work around the clock to provide the best possible service they can to our local communities."

    A van used to illegally carry and deposit rubbish has been crushed by a South Yorkshire council.

    The Ford Transit Tipper was seized by Barnsley Council after a £300 fixed penalty notice was issued to the driver for not holding a valid waste carriers’ licence.

    The council has powers to seize a vehicle for a range of reasons and if left unclaimed, it can be sold or destroyed.

    The vehicle was crushed as it was "no longer road worthy" in a bid to send a "strong message to anyone considering committing environmental offences," officials said.

    Councillor Jenny Platts, said: "It’s completely unacceptable that a few people feel it is okay to illegally dump waste across our borough.

    "If you choose to dump rubbish illegally and spoil the environment then you risk losing your vehicle permanently.

    "You could also lose your driving licence and get a hefty fine in court."

    Two men and a woman have been arrested after police found drugs worth an estimated £4,000 and seized £7,000 in cash during a raid in North Lincolnshire.​

    The men, aged 29 and 35, and a 28-year-old woman are being held in police custody following the operation at a property on Searby Road in Scunthorpe on Wednesday.​

    The force said anyone with information which could help with their inquiries should contact them.

    West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin has joined tributes to comedian and writer Barry Cryer, who has died at the age of 86.

    Writing on social media, external Ms Brabin described Barry Cryer as a "true legend" and said he was a "comedy great," who would be sadly missed.

    Cryer, who was born in Leeds in 1935, wrote for comedy giants including, Sir Bruce Forsyth, Sir David Frost and Morecambe and Wise.

    He was also a star of the BBC radio panel shows like Just A Minute, which he first joined in 1972.

    Cryer started his career as a variety performer in Leeds.

    Paying tribute to the star, external Leeds City Varieties said: "We are incredibly saddened to hear about the passing of our dear friend, Barry Cryer.

    "From his 'first paid job' on our stage in 1956, to becoming a 'The Good Old Days' favourite.

    "Barry has been a familiar face, continuing to tread the boards here throughout his career."

    His son Bob Cryer said, external the comedian died "peacefully, in good spirits and with his family around him".

    The University of Leeds Alumni group also paid tribute to their former student, who was awarded an honorary degree in 2017 having been snapped up before finishing his studies.
