The YouGov survey reports just 4% of people choose clothing based on showbiz endorsements, with more than half of people surveyed saying sustainability is a factor when it comes to buying an item.

Peter Andrews, a senior lecturer in digital and social media marketing at the University of Hull, says: "Despite what we are led to believe – that celebrities and influencers are dictating fashion choices, particularly among the younger generations – this survey suggests the opposite is true.

"These influencers reflect their followers' interests more closely and are more likely to be similar to them, with deeper connections.

"It is also noticeable that over the last few years there has been a growth in sustainability-based influencers who have closer relations with their followers."

Norman Gregory studied for a Certificate of Education at what was then St John's College in 1940.

As a teacher training college it did not have the power to confer degrees.

Mr Gregory, who now lives in Suffolk, is the oldest St John's College ex-student to receive the accolade.

The Green Future proposal covers four themes; net zero and sustainable energy, resources, waste and water management and natural environments.

Rob Waltham, the leader of North Lincolnshire Council, says: "This is one of the most important pieces of policy we will be responsible for - it sets a vision which will protect North Lincolnshire now and for future generations.

"Just give it a few more weeks, maybe a month, do the basics, keep the seat belt on and tray up and we'll land safely," he said.

Residents in Holmfield, near Halifax, said the low-level noise left them "tortured" in their homes and had ruined sleep and damaged their health.

A petition with more than 500 signatures outlined the impact the noise had on people.

Villagers had said they thought local industrial units were to blame for the drone, but a Calderdale Council investigation identified "lots of potential sources".

Speaking last week Councillor Jenny Lynn said: "We believe there are three possible sources of noise nuisance in the process of being investigated."

The council said it was not able to provide any further details but Ms Lynn added that "a significant amount of effort and resources" are being put into finding the cause.

She said: "Investigations into low frequency noise complaints are complex because the alleged noise can’t usually be heard by most people except the complainant and perhaps a few other individuals.

"The work is ongoing and officers are in touch with everyone who has expressed concern."
