A village in North Yorkshire which has been without a pub for more than a decade could soon have one again.
The Travellers Rest in Skeeby, near Richmond, closed in 2008 after a former owner's attempt to get permission to convert it into a house was rejected by planners.
It's now in the hands of the Skeeby Pub Community Society (SPCS) who say the village "once had a thriving local community with a village shop, post office, pub, church, chapel and village hall.
"Unfortunately, that sense of community has in recent years been undermined by the loss of our village facilities.
"By reopening the village pub, we hope to bring some of them back."
Carol Wilkinson, chair of the SCPS, said: "It'll be a traditional country pub serving locally-sourced food and will have traditional pub games.
"We have a fabulous garden space we're going to bring back to life
"And we'll get as much community hub activity going on as we can manage."
