Older men in Wetherby are being encouraged to get their aprons on and get into the kitchen, as part of a charity initiative offering free cookery classes.
Wetherby in Support of the Elderly, external (WiSE) is working with Wetherby Man with a Pan to deliver the course for men aged 50 or over who are kitchen-shy.
It's hoped the classes will be an important lifeline for people like Jerry (pictured above), who lost his wife last year.
Jerry says: "I've always fancied doing some cooking and my son said I should not be getting takeaway meals, and should learn how to cook. Now I'm on my way."
The courses are completely free, with all ingredients, equipment and utensils provided.
Volunteer co-ordinator Jenny Siswick told BBC Radio Leeds: "Some men of this age find that they've always had someone cooking all their meals and if that person is no longer around them it's a huge shock.
"Those taking part have fun while they're cooking and they get to know each other and make friendships. We encourage them to shop for themselves - some of them have never done a food shop - and to make the recipes at home."
The six week courses are funded by WiSE and other local agencies.
