    Rescue crews at the scene of a serious crash on the M1 in South Yorkshire are currently working to free a casualty from one of the cars involved, the fire service has confirmed.

    Crews were called to the M1 southbound between junctions 33 and 32 at about 14:45, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said.

    Traffic is building in the area so drivers are being urged to avoid that stretch of the motorway and plan an alternative route if possible.

    Fire and rescue teams from Parkway, Rotherham, Aston Park and Maltby are currently all in attendance at the scene of the incident, the fire service said.

    Antique props used in the filming of the Netflix TV series The Crown have been stolen in South Yorkshire.

    The items, worth up to £150,000, were taken from three vehicles in Doncaster last Wednesday, police said.

    Among the props taken in the theft was a replica of a rare Fabergé egg which was acquired by the Queen's grandfather George V in 1933.

    South Yorkshire Police said officers were called at 16:30 on 16 February to reports of the theft from vehicles on Pastures Road in the town.

    A spokesperson said: "It is reported that three vehicles containing props used in film and TV were broken into and a number of items taken.

    "Officers investigated the incident, but all existing lines of enquiry have now been exhausted."

    Dockworkers in Hull were left shocked after one of the world's largest, venomous spiders was found lurking inside a shipping container.

    Officials say Huntsman spiders, which can be 12ins wide, are usually found in Australia, but the one found in Hull is thought to have hopped onboard a ship from China.

    Dr Ella Deutsch, from the Spider Lab at the University of Nottingham, says: "There are over 1,000 species of Huntsman and we actually get quite a lot of accidental imports.

    "It will definitely be too cold for them to survive here at the moment and any spider from a warmer climate probably wouldn't appreciate our winters."

    The spider from Hull is now being cared for at a specialist rescue centre after officials from the RSPCA were called in.

    A teenage girl was sexually assaulted twice in the same night by a masked man in Lincoln, police say.

    The suspect, who was wearing a balaclava, struck first as the girl walked along St Catherines, near the South Park Roundabout, shortly after 22:30 on 12 February.

    He then ran off towards the High Street, but half an hour later rode past the victim on a bicycle in Manby Street and slapped her bottom.

    The man is described as wearing a black coat with grey joggers. It is believed he had removed the balaclava before the second assault.

    Anyone who was in the area or who saw the incident is asked to contact police.

    "They're risking themselves, passengers, their vehicles and the safety of those who have to come and rescue them if they get stranded.

    A man thought to have been bundled into a car boot as part of a suspected kidnap attempt is safe and well, police say.

    The victim has been identified and a 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and affray in connection with the incident, according to South Yorkshire Police.

    The "potential assault and kidnapping" took place on Bressingham Road in Burngreave, Sheffield, at about 03:20 on Tuesday, officers said.

    A member of the public reported a man being assaulted and then forced into the boot of a silver Audi A6.

    The car was found abandoned on nearby Catherine Road.

    The arrested man is being held in custody while an investigation continues.

    Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police.

    The A46 at Lincoln near Whisby has been closed after a lorry jack-knifed on the road causing severe delays.

    The lorry crashed into the central reservation shortly after 08:30 on Thursday and has spilled diesel across both carriageways, according to National Highways., external

    The A46 between Pennells roundabout and Whisby roundabout, external has been closed by police following the incident.

    A diversion has been put in place.

    Normal conditions are not expected in the area until after 16:00, officials said.

    How young people in Sheffield were affected by spending more time using screens during the Covid lockdowns has come under scrutiny by the city council.

    A report from broadcasting watchdog Ofcom in 2020 said TikTok and Netflix dominated the lives of children and teenagers during the early part of the pandemic.

    It found that a lack of daily structure resulted in a heightened use of apps, often used as a way of escapism for young people.

    A Sheffield Council report has now said that those findings are likely to be replicated in the city.

    The Ofcom report, Children's Media Lives: Life in Lockdown, external, revealed that children’s remote learning lacked routine and was responsible for keeping children alone in their rooms for prolonged durations.

    Given the "hard time" children were going through, parents had told Ofcom they admittedly relaxed some of their normal routine rules during the pandemic.

    Consultations which have already taken place in Sheffield show "the use of apps and games and the associated risks and opportunities to young people" are in line with national trends, the city council report says.

    It adds: "The Ofcom report highlights a lack of daily structure resulting in a large increase in time spent online, an increased consumption of online content such as Netflix and a more simultaneous and blended use of gaming and apps such as chatting on one app while gaming on another.

    "TikTok use has largely increased and there are concerns around extreme body conscious exercise."

    A family from Leeds are going the extra mile for charity this half-term as they attempt to visit every Premier League football ground in 24 hours.

    The Westerman family are taking on the challenge in the hope of raising enough to buy defibrillators for Wortley FC Colts Under-11s team and the TV Harrison sports ground in Leeds.

    Lea and Dave Westerman have told BBC Radio Leeds the tour of stadiums was initially an idea from their son, Kaleb.

    Lea says: "We thought we might as well raise some money at the same time."

    The challenge started at Newcastle United's St James's Park on Wednesday.

    Ms Westerman added: "We've watched a few videos where one person did it with eight minutes to spare, but we've watched a few where they've failed, so we have to hope the traffic is kind to us today."

    Seven people have been arrested after shop workers in Hull were attacked by a large group of youths during an incident of violent disorder, police say.

    Items were stolen, shop workers assaulted and property damaged by a group of 10 to 12 youths on Whitefriargate at about 18:00 on Monday.

    Police patrols have been increased in the area with CCTV footage (above) being used to identify more of those involved in the incident, officers said.

    Ch Supt Christine Wilson said: "We will do what we can to protect and reassure our residents and businesses that we will be there for them."

    She appealed for parents to "take responsibility for their children and to make sure you know where your children are and who they are with".

    The seven people arrested - who are between the ages of 15 and 20 years old - have been released on police bail while an investigation into the incident continues, police said.

    The warnings include ones for the River Aire, River Don and River Ouse.

    One flood alert is in place from Cromwell Weir to Gainsborough in Lincolnshire, where the Environment Agency says flooding of roads and farmland, external is expected to continue.

    In York, the River Ouse (pictured), reached what's expected to be its flood-peak level, external at 4.58m on Tuesday, with a number of properties flooded.

    The EA said: "No further significant rainfall is forecast in the next 24 hours and we expect the river levels to continue falling steadily."

    Two men have been charged over malicious communications which were sent to the Labour Party's deputy leader Angela Rayner.

    A 53-year-old man from Halifax has been accused of making malicious calls to the Ashton-under-Lyne MP on 15 October.

    A 71-year-old man from Sheffield has been charged over an email sent to Ms Rayner the following day.

    They have both been bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on 17 March.

    The men have both been charged with sending an offensive, indecent, obscene or menacing message.

    A Labour spokesman said the party was working police to catch those responsible for the "abuse and threats" Ms Rayner had received.
