    A few showers this evening which may turn wintry at times with a mixture of rain, sleet and snow, but these won’t settle. 

    Most of the showers will clear away overnight to leave a dry night with some clear spells.

    With lighter winds it will be a cooler night with a minimum temperature of -1C (30F).

    Further wintry showers will move through early on Wednesday morning but again these will clear quickly leaving a dry and bright afternoon with some sunshine.

    He spotted this Sparrowhawk keeping an eye out for lunch on the hedge opposite his house in Empingham.

  4. Union to work with bosses to avoid compulsory redundanciespublished at 17:37

    Speaking about the British Gas job cuts, the general secretary of the Unison union said it was "disappointing".

    Dave Prentis said: "This comes at a very uncertain time for those working for the company. It is important that the business now continues to engage fully with the unions to try to cushion the blow of this sad news. 

    "Unison will work with senior managers to seek to avoid any compulsory redundancies and to support workers who might be transferring to other roles. 

    "We expect British Gas to be flexible in finding the right solutions for those whose jobs are at risk because it is the workforce that has helped make the business so profitable."

    This is Azeez Fasasi and he is wanted in connection with high value credit card fraud and perverting the course of justice.

    The 39 year old was arrested in June 2013 in connection with a £75,000 fraud investigation.

    He was released on bail but he never answered his bail date and has not been seen since.

    Police are now asking for the public, external to help them find him.

  11. Driver 'mainly to blame' for Malta supercar crashpublished at 16:22 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2016

    A driver of a supercar, from Rutland, was mainly to blame for a crash, which left several people injured in Malta, a magisterial inquiry has concluded, reports the Malta Times, external.

    Millionaire Paul Bailey was not a "professional driver" and the crash was a result of excessive speed and a lack of handling techniques and corrective measures, the inquiry found. There were no mechanical failures with the car, according to the newspaper.

    British Gas say "dozens" of the job losses will be in Leicestershire but they can't be more specific yet.

    It involves staff based at the Spinneyside site, on Enderby Way.

    British Gas says the proposals follow a strategic review started in July last year, and has not yet revealed when the cuts will come into force.

    Following the news that Queens Road Medical Centre is closing, the deputy city mayor has said he wants to change the terms for when GPs announce a practice closure.

    About 2,000 people received a letter last week to say their surgery is closing at the end of March.

    Rory Palmer, who is also chair of the Health & Wellbeing Board says: "My view is that it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect GPs to provide a longer notice period, say six months, so patients have longer to register at another practice.

    "They can look around the practices instead of making a rushed decision and actually it gives the health organisations longer to plan and respond to these closures."

    You've been telling us on Facebook , externalwhat you think about Keith Vaz speaking to the Health Minister about the long handover delays at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

    He said: "On Sunday, January 24, 10 ambulances were parked outside A&E at the Royal Infirmary - 10 out of 25 in the whole of Leicestershire trying to handover patients to the staff."

    Janet Ashby said: "My mum needed one on Sunday teatime as she had fallen and broken her hip. We waited an hour(not complaining) and they were full of apologies as they were so busy. When we got to A&E we had to queue to get inside, the place was heaving. The whole staff were so stretched but at the same time they were respectful to everyone."

    Diane Cank said: "I have see empty ambulances outside every day when I visited my sister."  

  16. British Gas cuts 500 energy efficiency postspublished at 15:00 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2016

    British Gas is to cut 500 jobs in its energy efficiency business as it tries to reduce its costs.

    The roles are based in Leeds, Oxford and Leicester and will affect staff who deal in loft insulation and cavity wall insulation.

    British Gas spokesman Mark Hodges said: "We must ensure that our costs allow us to be competitive for our customers."

    The company has a workforce of 28,000 in the UK.

    Unions described the announcement affecting the insulation teams as a "sickener", saying staff affected by the news felt "gutted".

    The BBC understands Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is close to agreeing a new three-and-a-half year contract with the Foxes.

    He's scored 20 goals in his last 34 Premier League appearances.

    It's thought the 29-year-old could receive a considerable increase on his current salary.
