    A man on a mobility scooter had cash and a chain stolen by a robber with a knife in Loughborough.

    The 33 year old was travelling between Hospital Walk and Cumberland Walk on 22 January when he was approached by two men at the park.

    They threatened him with a lock knife before before taking his belongings and running away.

    More now on that story I told you earlier, about a second GP surgery closing in an area of Leicester.

    Dr Richard Vautrey, deputy Chair of the British Medical Association's GP committee, says such closures are becoming more and more common.

    He wants NHS England and the local commissioning group to step up to support struggling practices.

    He says:: "There's huge pressure on practices to cope with the rising bureaucracy, rising work load and at the same time, often funds are often being cut and practices are really struggling to deliver a safe and sustainable service as a result of that."

    One person who signed the petition, external to make the A47 in Rutland safer commented to say: "I'm signing this petition because I have driven on this road many times and it truly feels unsafe. 

    "The A47 road has variable speed limits, blind bends and no street lighting."

    Another person said: "My real home is in Leicestershire, I worked at the LRI for years and I have also lost friends in previous accidents along this treacherous piece of road. 

    "Something has to change and if this helps then good news."

  5. 'Severe' delay in A&E handover times will be fixedpublished at 13:09 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2016

    We've heard a lot about the problems with ambulance handover times at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

    Well, the government's promising the delays will be "fixed" by next year. 

    MP Keith Vaz warned 856 patients waited between two and four hours to be transferred from an ambulance to A&E at Leicester Royal Infirmary in 2015.

    The Health Minister, Ben Gummer, told Mr Vaz: "You raise issues which have been severe in Leicester and I'm aware of them. 

    "I'm very happy to have a separate meeting with you to discuss those and what is being done about it."

    Parin's sister Khudaja Ismail has started the petition online, at the moment it has 480 signatures., external

    It will eventually be handed into Rutland County Council and addressed to the MP Alan Duncan.

    She says any change that can be made to the road would be "absolutely amazing". 

    At the moment it is a single carriageway, she suggests dueling the road, banning overtaking or putting up speed cameras.

    Another petition to tell you about now, this one has been set up by the family of a Leicester pharmacist who died in a crash on the A47 in Rutland in December.

    Parin Ismail lived in Peterborough and was driving to work at Leicester Royal Infirmary when her car was involved in a collision where she suffered fatal injuries.

    The family is calling for changes to be made to the road, claiming Parin was the 19th person to die on that stretch of road in the last 20 years.

    Some of you have suggested on Facebook , externalthat you'd like Wygston's House to become a tea room instead. 

    Well, Mr Thornton says he plans to serve breakfasts, lunch and afternoon tea at the house, as well as evening meals and drinks.

    He also says he'd like it to become a venue to host wedding receptions and private functions too.

    Sarah Sharlott says: "Nooooo! I loved the costume museum there as a child. Tea shop is more appropriate if it has to be sacrificed on the altar of profit."

    Sue Clayton says: "Should still be used as a museum . They could put some of the exhibits from Snibston in there to preserve them."

    Mayor Peter Soulsby said: “Wygston’s House is a wonderful building and a fine example of the city’s architectural heritage.

    “If future generations are to enjoy our historic buildings, it’s really important that we find new uses for them.

    The 25-year lease on the 15th century building will be granted to the company that already owns and runs Taps on nearby Guildhall Lane.

    Geoff Thornton, the company director, said: “This is a really exciting opportunity to create something special in a unique building.

    “As we did at Taps, our intention is to carry out a sympathetic conversion, which we hope will include restoring the basement vaulted ceiling to reveal the building’s original brickwork."

    You might remember a few months ago the city council said they were inviting suggestions from businesses and local groups for the leasehold of the city's oldest building.

    Despite Dr Jonathan Lenton's reason for closing the surgery, the Patient Participation Group Chair says the decision should be reconsidered.

    Billy Bhamra says: "The CCG must listen to what the public are saying, we pay our taxes, we need care, the elderly need care.

    "How can they keep closing? Sometimes it's too very hard for elderly people to travel to another GP that's too far."

    The Foxes play Liverpool in the Premier League and boss Claudio Ranieri says revenge isn't on his mind.

    Leicester are 13 points ahead of Liverpool in the table but the Reds are one of only two teams to have inflicted defeat on City this season, at Anfield on Boxing Day.

    Professor Azhar Farooqi is chair of the Leicester City Clinical Commisioning Group.

    He says: "The problem is we have a background where funding to general practices has been frozen for more than a decade, where there really isn't any extra funding and practices are now starting to feel the pinch.

    "Small practices in particular will find it more difficult to come with the funding scenario."
