BBC Local LiveTwo Nottinghamshire fraudsters have been handed suspended prison sentences and hefty costs for selling EU sourced bacon products and claiming they were free range and locally produced.
Image source, Nottinghamshire Trading StandardsTrading standards found that William Smith, 41, of Park Farm Cottage in Kneesall and Andrew Smith, 65, of Park Lidgetts Farm, Newark, were passing off bacon as locally sourced when it had in fact come from as far afield as Germany, Poland and Denmark.
A legitimate supplier was also unaware that their products were being repackaged and falsely labelled as produce from the pair's company Barn Bacon Limited.
William Smith received a 19 month sentence suspended for two years, 180 hours unpaid work and made to pay £15,000 costs. Andrew Smith was given a two year jail term, suspended for two years, 200 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay costs of £5,000.

BBC Local LiveAn 83-year-old man says he's probably going to hang up his shears after more than 30 years of trimming a 15ft topiary chick.
David Shawcross from Callow, near Wirksworth, has been tending to the hawthorn bush since he moved into the house in the 1960s.
He says his wife isn't overly keen on him getting up the ladder with his shears anymore.

Work is being carried out on the former Stibbe factory site, between Great Central Street and Highcross Street.
The site will be opened to the public on Saturday 6 (10:00-16:00) and Sunday 7 May (11:00-15:00).

The Broxtowe and Loughborough MPs quit Open Britain over the group's proposed tactics of targeting Brexit-supporting MPs, including Conservatives at June's General Election.
The pair said they could not "advocate campaigning" against their own party.

BBC Local LiveFirefighters in Leicester have been busy this lunchtime - rescuing a swan from a roof.
They were called to rescue the bird on All Saints Road by officers from the RSPCA - the bird was eventually released, after getting stuck about 14ft (4m) from the ground.

BBC Local LiveThree people were "lucky to escape" from a fire at a house without smoke alarms, the fire service said.
Fire crews from Ilkeston and Stapleford along with East Midlands Ambulance Service were called to a terraced house on Fuller Street at 23:06.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "No smoke alarms were fitted at the property and it was just by luck that the people escaped."
The three were taken to hospital but details of their injuries have not yet been released.

"For Leicester to repeat what they did [retaining the Premier League] would be difficult," the Frenchman said.
"They have struggled a bit in the Premier League and their focus was more on the Champions League but they have done remarkable well, for a first year participation, to get into the quarter-finals."
The two sides drew 0-0 when they met in the Premier League in August.
