    A seven foot long dog from Gedling is thought to be Britain's biggest and heaviest dog.

    Balthazar the Great Dane weighs the same as a small baby elephant and has eaten everything from boots to car head rests. 

    But his owners Vinnie and Dixie Monte-Irvine have said he is a gentle giant who gets along with everyone including their three cats and three young children.

    Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan will lead a debate in Parliament later calling for tougher laws regarding dog on dog attacks.

    Police do not investigate them in the same way that dog attacks on humans or assistance dogs are. 

    Ms Morgan has been part of a campaign to raise the issue of dogs attacking other dogs after she was approached by a constituent whose Cocker Spaniel was set upon by two large Alsatians. 

    She said: "The number of attacks is clearly very concerning and it is important that police forces and local authorities have the powers they need to tackle the problem and reduce how often dogs are attacked as well as attacks on humans.

    "I am pleased to put this issue to Ministers and welcome a chance to raise this in Parliament."

    A two-year-old girl who swallowed a lithium button battery is lucky to be alive, her mother said.

    Kacie Barradell, from Pear Tree, Derby, had to have an operation on her oesophagus to remove the battery because of the damage it had caused to her body.

    Describing the ordeal, mum Cheryl Bell said:"It killed me inside".

    When swallowed, lithium batteries react with saliva and can burn holes through the lining of the oesophagus.  

    The Derby Telegraph, external reported that because of this, doctors gave Kacie a 40% chance of surviving after the discovery of the battery.

    Kacie's injuries have left her unable to walk properly and she is now on a special diet while she recovers at home.
