    A northern white-cheeked gibbon has been born at Twycross Zoo.

    Northern white-cheeked gibbons are classed, external as a "critically endangered" species and this birth is being seen as a way of helping to protect their longevity. 

    The zoo's new arrival is yet to be named.

    A Nottinghamshire food bank said it saw a man eating cardboard because he could not afford food.

    Nigel Webster, from Bestwood and Bulwell Foodbank, said that is just one of a number of extreme examples of the type of person they are trying to help. 

    "There was a lady who came to see us about a year ago who was using newspaper as a sanitary towel," Mr Webster told BBC Radio Nottingham. 

    "We're used to seeing homeless people at the foodbank, that is a fact of life, but for the first time this last 12 months, we have seen homeless families." 

    The Department for Work and Pensions has said food bank use has "complex" causes and it is "misleading" to point to any one cause.

  5. Man who threatened Conservative MP jailedpublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

    A man who called Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry's office and said she should be "Jo Cox'd" has been jailed for eight weeks. 

    John Wombell, 58, from London called the Conservative MP's office on 30 November. 

    Later that week the MP, who has been vocal about being a Remain supporter, also received a tweet asking someone to "Jo Cox" her

    Yesterday Wombell appeared at Central London Magistrates' Court. 

    He pleaded guilty to one charge of sending a message that was grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing nature and was sentenced to eight weeks in prison.

    He was also issued with a restraining order.

    After the hearing, Mrs Soubry tweeted , externalher thanks to Nottinghamshire and Met police forces.

    Derbyshire County Council says it has no choice but to close the road between Youlgreave and the A6 again, after a wall collapsed. 

    The route was previously closed for four weeks in March and April - but from today it will be shut until Friday. 

    The county council says a water pipe has to be moved during the repair and there's no option but to close the road again.

    People living in a Peak District village say it'll be harder for them to do their shopping and get to work this week.

    Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan and Broxtowe's Anna Soubry have quit pro-European campaign group Open Britain.

    A message on the Loughborough MP's Facebook page said:, external "As long standing Conservative Party members and MPs it is untenable for us to play any further role in an organisation, such as Open Britain, which is advocating campaigning against Conservative MPs or candidates.

    "l and we will not be doing so. Nicky Morgan & Anna Soubry."

    Have you been lucky enough to bag a ticket to watch Sir Elton John perform in Derby?

    The singers been forced to cancel a string of performances in the US after suffering a "potentially deadly" bacterial infection. 

    Sir Elton was treated in intensive care after returning from a tour of South America. 

    He's due to resume his schedule of live performances in the UK on 3 June - and will be in Derby the following day.

    The Scotland international is currently on-loan at Fulham but signed a new long-term contract with Derby in January.

    Leicester City boss Craig Shakespeare has said he is not expecting the club to be selling any of their best players this summer.

    With City not in the Champions League next season, there has been speculation that some players may look for a move away. 

    "We don't want to be a selling club," Shakespeare said. 

    "All the players are happy here, as I've said before, this is a unique group. 

    "We've created something here that's quite special so they've said they're quite happy."

    Last summer, after the Foxes had won the Premier League, forward Jamie Vardy was the subject of a £20m offer from Arsenal.

    A Derby man and a woman from London have pleaded not guilty to making preparations for a terrorism attack in the UK.

    Appearing at the OId Bailey, Munir Hassan Mohammed, 36, and Rowaida El-Hassan, 32, denied planning to make a bomb or poison to use against British citizens.  

    Mr Mohammed, of Leopold Street, Derby, denied a total of six terrorism offences and has been further charged with being a member of Islamic State (IS).

    The pair were remanded in custody and await trial in June.

    A street pastor from Derby is planning to set up the city's first ever "dry bar". 

    The venue would be located in the Cathedral Quarter and would serve a range of coffee, soft drinks and mocktails - non-alcoholic cocktails.

    It'll be open from 21:00 to 03:00 as an alternative to late bars and night clubs.

    Julio Abraham says they want to encourage people to communicate without the need for alcohol.
