  2. High Peak councillors raise taxi farepublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 15 May 2017

    Khia Lewis-Todd
    BBC Local Live

Councillors in High Peak have voted to raise the price of a two-mile taxi ride to £6.60, making it the most expensive place in Derbyshire to hire a hackney carriage taxi.

It's the first increase in six years and the new charges are due to come into force from next month.

John Sleigh, who's a taxi driver in Buxton, believes the price rise is justified.

[For] six years we've not had a price increase, yet the council's fees go up every single year for the MOTs, the licence, the plates... the fuel prices go up every year. Yet we get an increase every six years, I just don't think that's fair."

  8. Watch: Clouds in Stapleford 'may have been tornado'published at 14:26 British Summer Time 15 May 2017

    Alex Smith
    BBC News Online

If you were in Stapleford on Friday, you may be forgiven for thinking for thinking there was something big brewing in the skies.

And - as it turns out - you were not far off, as the Met Office and weather presenter Charlie Slater have told me the strange cloud formations could well have been a tornado.

Jacqueline Dixon said she heard a loud noise before seeing leaves "being sucked upwards into the sky". After this, she said she saw a "white cloud oscillating with debris in it".

One of her neighbours had reported their fence panels being ripped out as well as debris gathering in their garden.

Charlie said: "It's difficult to tell. The pictures show the right types of clouds that would cause something called a funnel cloud - which is basically a tornado that doesn't touch the ground. From this point a small tornado could then develop.

"The video shows a funnel cloud but I couldn't say that was or wasn't at some point a tornado, although the pictures of the damage would certainly suggest that it's highly likely there was a tornado."

Meanwhile, a Met Office spokeswoman said: "With the towering shower clouds present on Friday the conditions were present for possible tornado development."

    Amy Woodfield
    BBC Local Live

The latest proposed HS2 route is causing farmers in a north west Leicestershire village to fear the future.

Some in Appleby Magna could lose their homes as well as their livelihoods if the route goes ahead - like John Morrison.

His farmhouse is one of a few set to be demolished...

Locals also fear for the River Mease. John told the BBC it's a "site of special scientific interest" and a "special area of conservation" because of a weed that grows there.

He said there are also otters, bullhead fish and white-clawed crayfish in the water.

Under HS2 plans there will be a viaduct going over here.

Those behind HS2 said they have consulted with local communities over the plans and that all responses will be externally analysed and presented for consideration.

The single story building currently on the right side of the cathedral front is to be demolished and replaced by a new three story Heritage Learning Centre.

The plan is also to level the floor inside the main cathedral building.

They don't have all the money needed yet though - although the piggy bank has just been boosted with £3m from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Adding that to the other donations already received they now have just £5m to raise.

The next 18 months will be spent raising that last bit of money before starting development work.

It's hoped to be complete by 2020.

  18. Ilkeston FC players still with no paypublished at 12:57 British Summer Time 15 May 2017

    Ed Dawes
    BBC Radio Derby Sport

It's been about six months and Ilkeston FC players say they still haven't been paid -  since December team members have been left without any income from the relegated club.

Former Ilkeston striker Che Adams was sold from League One Side Sheffield United to Birmingham City - in which the Robins had a sell-on clause in the deal believed to be £220,000.

This move then led to other parties who are owed money by Ilkeston, asking to be paid.

The club had said "historic debts to other clubs" were now being pursued.

And on the eve of the new season, the club were suspended by the Northern Premier League for a breach of regulations.

The Robins team captain Matt Baker told BBC Radio Derby that the situation is becoming desperate but the players don't want to harm the club.
