    A 19-year-old man will appear in court after four pedestrians were injured by a vehicle in Leicester city centre last year.

    Three men and a woman were hit by a car that failed to stop on Humberstone Gate on 1 November.

    Wahid Rob, from Neston Road in Leicester, has been charged with four counts of attempted grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving.

    He is set to appear at Leicester Magistrates' Court on 10 July.

    A man has been charged after a shot was allegedly fired in Worksop in the early hours of Monday.

    Armed officers searched an address in Cheapside after they received a report of a gunshot in Gateford Road at about 01:40.

    A 23-year-old, from Cheapside, was charged with possession of a firearms weapon with intent to endanger life and appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court this morning.

    He was remanded into custody to appear at Nottingham Crown Court next month.

    An 84-year-old man has died after a crash between a lorry and car on the B6463 in Nottinghamshire.

    It happened at about 10:00 on Tuesday between Oldcotes and Styrrup.

    Two staff members admitted failing to take reasonable care for the health and safety of a disabled teenager after an 18-year-old suffered brain damage at a Leicester school.

    Marilyn Smith and Eileen Coull, from Ratby, Leicestershire, changed their pleas from not guilty and will be sentenced next Thursday

    The teenager, who has mental and physical disabilities, slipped out of his rubber ring and was underwater for a minute and a half at the West Gate School, before being revived.

    He also suffered lung damage following the swimming lesson.

    The mother and stepfather of Charlie Dunn, 5, who drowned in a Leicestershire lake have appeared at Leicester Crown Court this morning where they denied manslaughter by gross negligence.

    Charlie, from Tamworth, was found submerged in a paddling area while on a day out at Bosworth Water Park on 23 July last year.

    A man has been taken to hospital with what are thought to be non life-threatening injuries following a crash in Nottingham (see 12:54).

    Nottinghamshire Police said they were called at about 11:45 to Mansfield Road after a collision involving a car and a bus.

    Two lanes were closed but have now reopened, the force added.

    A teenager has been now arrested on suspicion of rape - after being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an attack at Victoria Park in Leicester.

    The victim, who police believe was in her 20s, remains in a critical condition in hospital following the attack in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

    The 17-year-old remains in custody and is being questioned by detectives.

    A woman who poured sulphuric acid on her partner as he slept has been told to pay him almost £20,000 in compensation.

    Katie Leong, who is serving a life sentence for the attack on Daniel Rotariu, in Leicester last July, asked the judge to let her keep some of her savings for her eventual release but this was rejected.

    "I want to state that obviously I am in prison for a while and when I come out I don't want to be dependent on my family," Leong, 52, told Leicester Crown Court.

    "So I will need some money, I need a little bit myself for when I come out."

    Judge Nicholas Dean told Leong that her plea was "not really how it works" and ordered her to pay £19,300 to Mr Rotariu.

    A new Conservative MEP for the East Midlands has denied claims he believes in aliens.

    Rupert Matthews takes over as one of the party's two MEPs, after Andrew Lewer was elected to the UK Parliament in last month's General Election.

    But it is Mr Matthews' previous life as an author that has grabbed national headlines., external

    "I’ve written a few books on the subject [poltergeists and alien sightings] but it was some years ago now," he told BBC Radio Derby.

    "I did some books on haunted York, haunted Chester…I’m mainly a historian, I write a lot of history books and magazine articles and so on."

    Asked by BBC Radio Derby presenter Ian Skye if he believed in little green men, he replied "no".

    He added his role in the European Parliament would be to secure the best possible Brexit deal for the people of the East Midlands.
