  2. Drivers fined on Nottingham's new red routespublished at 09:49 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    In the first month of new road restrictions coming into force in Nottingham, 22 drivers were caught out.

    Double red lines were introduced on Canal Street, London Road and around the railway station in May which means drivers can't stop or wait on roads.

    It is to keep traffic flowing during the Broadmarsh redevelopment.

    Red Routes

    The Broadmarsh bus station and car park will be demolished and rebuilt, expected to take two and half years.

    A council spokesman said the bus station is closing from Monday with special stops scattered around the city, external. The car park will close later in the month.

    BBC weather presenter Alexandra Hamilton said there are some complicated physics behind the formation of hailstones and while it's unusual to see them this big in the UK, it's not unheard of.

    Dozens of trout have been found dead in the River Amber in South Wingfield.

    The Environment Agency has been collecting their bodies from the water...

    Paul Reeves from the Environment Agency has told the BBC they have identified a chemical that is toxic to fish that has polluted the water.

    He believes it was an accident and is investigating the cause.

    Two lanes have been reopened this morning , externalon the northbound A38 near Burton after the fatal crash last night.

    Staffordshire Police says they're keeping one lane shut between Clay Mills and Branston while they investigate.

    Ye Olde Salutation Inn is celebrating its 777th birthday today - on the seventh day of the seventh month, 2017.

    The pub in Hounds Gate, Nottingham was originally called the Archangel Gabriel Saluting the Virgin Mary but it was shortened to the Salutation Inn and is known as The Sal by regulars.

    It often features in Nottingham ghost walks.

    Landlord Jason Weston said: "Ye Olde Salutation Inn is celebrating its 777 years of long service to the public and there is not that many pubs, certainly not in Nottingham, and not very many in the UK itself, that can boost 777 years.

    "It is quite an exciting time for us."

    The pub is one of at least three in the city to claim to be the oldest.

    A woman's died after being hit by a car on the A38 near Burton last night, external.

    Staffordshire Police says it happened between the A5121 Branston Interchange and Claymills Road at about 20:30., external

    The A38 was shut to allow an air ambulance to land and take the woman to hospital, but she later died.

    There were long delays in the area and Highways England says the northbound carriageway remains closed this morning. , external

    Two dogs were rescued from a house fire on St Norbert Drive in Ilkeston.

    Crews from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire attended as well as the British Red Cross.

    Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service has said all the people were out of the house when they arrived but they did have to rescue their dogs.

    It's thought the fire started in the kitchen of the semi-detached house and spread to the bedrooms and the loft. The fire service is looking into the cause.

    • There is congestion on the A453 southbound between the M1 and A42 near East Midlands Airport
    • One lane is closed on the M1 northbound between junctions 25 and 26 near Nottingham after an accident. It is expected to open by 10:00
    • Two lanes are closed on the A38 northbound entry slip from the A5121 following an accident near Burton Upon Trent
    • Drivers should expect delays on the A38 northbound between the A513 and the junction with A5121 near Burton Upon Trent

    A teenager will appear in court this morning charged with the rape and attempted murder of a woman in Victoria Park in Leicester.

    The woman was attacked on Monday night - she is still in a critical condition in hospital.

    The 17-year-old suspect, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has also been charged with robbery.
