    Maryam Qaiser
    BBC Local Live

Plans for a £500,000 community facility in Ilkeston have been delayed because of repeated vandalism.

Stanton Football Club has spent a year trying to build a pavilion for people to use for activities.

But the club says plans have been delayed because vandals have glued gates shut, abandoned burnt-out motorbikes and dumped rubbish at the site.

The club's vice chairman Steve Lowe says work keeps being pushed back.

He said: "We really want to emphasis that this half a million pound investment is for the entire community of Ilkeston which we want to use for cub groups or disability groups or art groups...it is not just for the football club."

  5. Rise in people using food bankspublished at 08:12 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2017

    Maryam Qaiser
    BBC Local Live

More people in the East Midlands are now using food banks compared to last year according to The Trussell Trust.

They handed out just over 29,500 food parcels between April and September this year - an increase of more than 25% compared with the same time last year.

Nigel Adams from the Hope Foodbank in Beeston, Nottingham, says proposed changes to the benefits system could make the problem even worse.

He said: "Many reasons why people come for food parcels already is because they are having to wait for benefits and they are not getting quick enough support and response.

"Universal credits from what we are hearing is going to make that even worse, they are going to have to wait longer for benefits to come through."

Universal credit - a new benefit for working-age people replacing six benefits - is being rolled out nationwide by the government over the coming months.
