Derby could run out of space to bury the dead if new sites aren't created.

Two potential cemeteries have been earmarked by the city council - one next to Markeaton Crematorium and the other on farmland in Radbourne Lane, near Mackworth - but both need to undergo testing for suitability.

Helen Wathall from G Wathall and Son Funeral Director said the cost of providing space is greater than the profit.

"We've perhaps seen this coming for a while now. Lots of cemeteries have closed down and the ones we use quite frequently are filling up," she said.

"The solutions are difficult because of the cost of land."

Stuart Fraser, manager at Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre, says visitors heading to the site face a three-mile diversion.

He said: "We found out about the closure when the signs first went up before Christmas and on Friday the Environment Agency spoke to us who said we wouldn't be able to have access from the roundabout.

"We have not had chance to speak to our customers yet and apologies for not having informed people sooner."

    BBC News

The National Trust has issued a direct plea to an energy company to ditch plans for a fracking survey on a "nature-rich oasis".

It has previously threatened legal action against the charity for refusing to allow seismic surveys on its land.

The firm said its ability to extract gas would be "significantly limited" if the trust continued to deny permission and that its surveys were classed as "non-intrusive".

In a letter to Ineos, Clumber Park general manager Beth Dawson described the Grade I listed site and its thousands of acres of woodland as a "nature-rich oasis".

She said the park's "diversity and history" should be protected from shale gas extraction, also known as fracking.

    Caroline Lowbridge

Some Boots pharmacy staff say they are under too much pressure and fear mistakes will be made.

One whistleblower, a former manager, said he resigned in 2015 after he took his concerns to the independent industry regulator.

Several current Boots pharmacists told BBC Inside Out that understaffing could pose a risk to patients.

But the chain said its pharmacies were not understaffed and it had an industry-leading patient safety record.

Greg Lawton, who worked for Boots between 2008 and 2015 and in his final role was part of the manpower planning team that assessed staffing levels in the company's pharmacies, said the things he knew about staffing levels kept him awake at night.
