    A photo has been released showing 100-year-old Sofija Kaczan, who died in the early hours of this morning after her neck was broken during a robbery last week.

    It had been thought Mrs Kaczan was recovering from her ordeal, which happened in Empress Road in Normanton on Monday 28 May.

    A post-mortem examination is due to take place to determine her cause of death.

    A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery before she died and was released yesterday while investigations continue.

    The future of the region's 15 Poundworld stores hangs in the balance after a potential buyer pulled out of talks.

    Alteri Investors, whose website says it specialises in "challenging retail situations", was in advanced talks with Poundworld's owner TPG.

    About 100 of Poundworld's outlets were already under threat of closure.

    There are Poundworld branches in Nottingham, Derby, Leicester, Mansfield, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Hinckley, Loughborough, Chesterfield, Swadlincote and Clay Cross.

    CCTV images have been released of a man police want to speak to after money was stolen from collection boxes at a church in Ashbourne.

    Cash has been taken from the boxes at St Oswald's Church three times over the past six weeks - most recently on Tuesday 29 May.

    A Leicester man has gone on trial accused of committing sex offences against dozens of schoolboys by posing as young women on the internet.

    Henri Pinney, 22, has denied 40 separate charges against boys aged between 10 and 17.

    They include making indecent photographs and causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

    The prosecution said Mr Pinney pretended to be a host of young girls but was caught out when police linked the accounts and profile pictures to his mobile devices.

    The trial is expected to last seven weeks.

    Access to an illegal waste site in Newark has been blocked by the Environment Agency to prevent any further rubbish being dumped.

    An agency spokesman said it was a waste site in Bowbridge Road, which has had its permit revoked and the operator has declared bankruptcy.

    "No new waste has appeared on the site, but we are aware that existing sites that have been abandoned can be a target for additional dumping of waste," he said.

    Det Ch Insp Darren De’ath said Zofija Kaczan was "a well-loved member of the community."

    "That she was targeted in this way is disgusting," he said.

    “There are people in Derby who know the person responsible for this crime and I would urge them to come forward with any information that can help bring those responsible to justice."

    A post-mortem exam is due to take place to determine Mrs Kaczan's cause of death.

    An auction lot, including nine 103-year-old wartime chocolate bars, has sold for £3,050.

    The bars were discovered in a tin which belonged to World War One soldier Richard Bullimore, who belonged to a Leicestershire regiment

    Troops serving in France during the first Christmas of the war were given the Colonies Gift Tins, made in Mansfield.

    Plans for a major redevelopment of Leicester Cathedral have been revealed, external.

    The project would see a new Heritage Learning Centre created along with major repairs and renovations.

    The Dean of Leicester, David Monteith, said the upgrade was in response to a ten-fold rise in visitors since the reinterment of Richard III in 2015 and would be the biggest transformation for the cathedral in 80 years.

    The plans, which have been supported by money from the Heritage Lottery Fund, are due to be submitted this summer.

    Three men have been arrested following a disturbance in a Derby street this morning.

    Derbyshire Police said they were called to Stockbrook Street at about 07:15 where they found a number of men who had outstanding warrants for their arrest.

    Two more people have been arrested this morning in connection with a shooting in St Ann's in which a 13-year-old boy and a man, 20, were injured.

    Police were called to St Ann’s Well Road on Monday afternoon to a report that two people had been shot.

    The arrests made are:

    • A 27-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy arrested this morning on suspicion of attempted murder
    • A 15-year-old boy, who has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of a class B drug, is due to appear at Nottingham Youth Court today
    • A 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and affray has been released on bail
    • A 16-year-old arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and firearms offences remains in police custody
