    A man has been arrested on suspicion of drug and firearm offences, external after police found cannabis plants, growing equipment and handguns at a property in Bramcote.

    Officers were called to Chesham Drive yesterday morning after two men were seen filling a van with green plants.

    They found the cannabis plants in the back of the van, cannabis growing equipment inside the property and five guns inside a garage.

    Nottinghamshire Police said a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of intent to supply a Class B drug and being in possession of a firearm without a valid certificate.

    A Derbyshire police dog that required emergency treatment when he was stabbed several times during an arrest has returned to duty.

    PD Axle was injured while assisting human officers at an incident in Riddings on 4 July.

    Derbyshire Police said after a recovery period he had "sailed through" a full training assessment and was now "operational once more".

    A man who was found dead in a Leicester street last month has been identified thanks to a public appeal.

    Officers found the man in Braunstone Lane East at about 22:30 on 11 July.

    At the time, the force said his death was not suspicious and "despite exhaustive efforts", officers couldn't find out who he was.

    After an artist's impression of him was drawn up and a photograph of a distinctive tattoo was released, police said they had a number of calls from people.

    The Leicester coroner's office confirmed the man was 33-year-old Mariusz Wojtowicz. His inquest is due to take place on 17 October.

    A teenage boy has been left with a fractured skull and eye socket after an attack in a Nottinghamshire village.

    The 18-year-old was attacked by a group of people between 18:00 on Sunday and 02:00 on Monday on Gainsborough Road, Girton.

    Police said it happened close to the Girton Sailing Club.

    The victim was taken to hospital and has since been discharged. Police are appealing for information.

    A ranger at Sherwood Forest says a common toad managed to survive a devastating heathland fire in Mansfield.

    Ian Major found the creature in the middle of the blackened land.

    He said he was close to tears following the blaze and added it will take at least 10 years for the land to recover and the wildlife to return.

    A 20-year-old woman has been charged with assisting an offender in connection with the death of Stephen Walsh from Mapperley, Nottingham.

    Mr Walsh, 37, was found dead at his home in Blenheim Avenue, Mapperley, on Monday 30 July after being assaulted the previous night following a car crash.

    Oliver Brown, 21, of Digby Avenue, Mapperley, has already been charged with manslaughter in connection with Mr Walsh's death and is due to appear in court next month.

    Today, police have charged Roseann Newton of Findern Green, Sneinton.

    She has been bailed to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on 11 September.

    Three potential sites for a new cemetery in Loughborough have been identified by a council.

    The town's existing cemetery is expected to be full within the next four years so Charnwood Borough Council is planning a new facility.

    The first option, in Allendale Road, would be the cheapest at £550,000 but could potentially anger residents in the area as the land had been earmarked for recreational use.

    Option two - costing £1.9m - would see Shelthorpe Golf Course reduced to nine holes with a third of the site (pictured) being used to house the new cemetery.

    The third option, involving industrial land off Watermead Road in Nanpantan, is the most costly at £5.5m but would also provide the most space for a new cemetery.

    A public consultation on the three options, external is due to run until 23 September.

    It arrived ready-assembled and took one man and his crane just an hour-and-a-half to place it into position.

    Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to in connection with an assault and attempted theft at Nottingham railway station.

    At about 18.30 on 24 July, a man jumped on board a train and tried to steal a mobile phone and a train ticket from a woman.

    British Transport Police said he then ran off the train and was chased by another passenger.

    The suspect then hit the man, causing him to fall and cut his head. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

    Police are keen to speak to this man after two women were allegedly assaulted outside a nightclub in Nottingham.

    One woman told officers she was punched in the head while the other said she was punched and pushed to the floor, breaking her wrist, during the altercation outside Propaganda in Lace Market, on 15 May.

    Anyone who recognises the man is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police by calling 101.

    A mass of plastic bags and wet wipes has been found in the stomach of a deer at Bradgate Park.

    Rangers at the attraction culled the distressed and emaciated adult male yesterday after they noticed it was pestering humans for food rather than grazing.

    They then discovered this collection of man-made products inside its digestive system.

    The Bradgate Park Trust said it believed the animal had been repeatedly fed food by visitors and also ingested the plastic bag holding it.

    The trust has pleaded with the public to resist the temptation to feed the deer.

    Former mine water lagoons near Creswell are to be filled in with 231,000 tonnes of soil and turned into a nature conservation zone.

    Derbyshire County Council hopes the move will put an end to anti-social behaviour at the site, including the lighting of fires and the abandonment of stolen vehicles.

    The authority has approved the plans from Welbeck Estates Company Ltd to fill the former Creswell Colliery lagoons with soil and other "inert" waste.

    The colliery used several lagoons to treat mine water - a process which stopped in 2012.

    The 39-acre site will now be restored for agriculture and nature conservation, in a process that will take three years.

    A report from the county council states: "The development would... leave the site restored for an agricultural and nature conservation."

    Severn Trent says water supplies should now be restored for all customers affected by this morning's burst pipe in Alfreton.

    The issue affected homes and businesses across the city, including Littleover, Normanton and Chaddesden.

    The firm says its engineers were now focused on fixing the burst pipe on Alfreton Road, a section of which remains closed.
