    It was "pure luck" no-one died after a car came off a trailer on the A50 in Derbyshire last night, police said.

    The driver of a passing lorry swerved to avoid the vintage Jaguar and ended up in a ditch on the eastbound carriageway between J5 and J4, near Etwall.

    Police said the road was closed for most of the night and the driver towing the vehicle has been reported to court.

    A power failure on the East Coast Mainline caused chaos for passengers going through Nottinghamshire yesterday.

    People were advised not to travel unless absolutely necessary because of the fault between Retford and Newark North Gate which happened at about 17.30.

    It has now been fixed and trains are due to run on Thursday with some alterations - but it is expected to be busy, a spokesman for Network Rail said.

    Plans to introduce permanent bollards around Trent Bridge cricket ground and Nottingham Forest's City Ground are being considered next week.

    Temporary barriers along the road were installed in the summer ahead of an England Test match and in the wake of terror attacks in London - although the council stressed there was no specific threat to the city.

    If approved, this latest scheme, external is estimated to cost about £850,000.

    Nottinghamshire County Council said the proposed bollards will "help with crowd control and serve the same purpose as the temporary barriers."

    John Handley who covers community safety, said once installed, the permanent bollards and extra measures brought in by both sports clubs would "provide a significant boost to pedestrian safety".

    The family of an 85-year-old man who was hit by a car outside the Royal Derby Hospital a week ago have said thank you to those who came to his aid, external.

    Anthony Hufton, from Mickleover, is still receiving treatment at the hospital after being seriously injured in Uttoxeter New Road on Thursday

    The crash led to the road being partially closed for several hours, causing major disruption for hospital patients and staff.

    The family of a woman who died when she was hit by a lorry on the A50 last Thursday say their "hearts are broken".

    Rajwinder Kaur Atwal, aged 36, from Littleover, died at about 06:40 near Derby south services at Shardlow.

    In a statement, Ms Atwal's family, said: "We don’t know how we will continue on but know that we will remember her each and every day.

    "She will remain forever in our hearts.”

    Derbyshire Police said they are keen to speak to anyone who was driving eastbound on the A50 that morning and either saw a black Astra pulled over after the services or a pedestrian beside the road.

    In a speech to senior officials from the club and players, Prince William, said: "When the man that led this club to victory died so tragically, the people of this city revealed with their outpouring of admiration, that they too shared much of the character that was so central to who Vichai was.

    "You showed that community mattered to him and to you all."

    William, a former air ambulance helicopter pilot, revealed he had also flown in the past with the helicopter pilot Eric Swaffer, describing the experience as a "privilege".

    Even though he no longer flies professionally the Duke still takes to the skies to keep up his flying hours, and said he flew with Mr Swaffer a few months before the crash.

    Detectives are investigating after the bodies of a man and woman were found inside a house last night.

    Police said they were called to the home in Tatlow Road, Glenfield at 23:50 yesterday by a member of the public "concerned for the welfare of the occupants".

    The force said the deaths are being treated as unexplained and they are not looking for anyone else in connection with their deaths.

    A post-mortem examination is taking place this afternoon.
