    A woman has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car.

    Police said the pedestrian was struck shortly before 10:00 at the junction of Mansfield Road and Thackery's Lane in Nottingham.

    She has been taken to Queen's Medical Centre for treatment.

    A £10,000 reward, external is being offered in an effort to find the person who killed a Leicester grandmother three years ago.

    Mumtaz Member, 56, was found with severe head injuries at her home in Holmfield Avenue on 12 December 2015.

    Two men and a woman were charged with murder but the case against them was discontinued in 2016.

    Earlier this week Leicestershire Police said they were pursuing new lines of inquiry in the case.

    Now a cash reward has been offered by independent charity Crimestoppers for any information that leads to the conviction of those responsible.

    Det Insp Tony Yarwood said: “We know the answer to this lies within the community. As a result officers will be out and about in the Holmfield Avenue and Spinney Hill areas distributing leaflets which have been translated in to Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati and Hindi."

    Gary Lineker has been criticised by cricket broadcaster Jonathan Agnew for expressing his political views on Twitter.

    Agnew told Lineker - who has opined on a range of subjects, including Brexit, immigration and Conservative party policy - that as "the face of BBC Sport", he should "observe BBC editorial guidelines".

    "Keep your political views, whatever they are and whatever the subject, to yourself," he continued.

    Lineker responded by saying he could "tweet what he likes" and would continue to do so.

    A stretch of the new "smart motorway" on the M1 in Leicestershire has now opened.

    Highways England say junctions 23a and 24 have had all restrictions removed and are fully open.

    The stretch now features extra CCTV cameras, electronic information signs and new variable speed limits aimed at reducing traffic jams.

    A third man has been arrested, external following reports of a gun being fired in Aspley yesterday.

    Armed officers rushed to Minver Crescent at about 12:15 after being alerted to possible gunshots but there was no evidence of anyone having been injured.

    The 36-year-old man was arrested last night on suspicion of possession of a firearm without a certificate and possession of a Class A drug after officers searched a nearby property.

    Two other men, also from Aspley, remain in custody after being questioned on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

    A man has been jailed after he was found carrying a knife.

    Tyson Briggs, 27, of no fixed address, was jailed for 12 weeks at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday after admitted possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

    Briggs was arrested in Kent Street, Nottingham on Tuesday and was found in possession of a small knife.

    PC Gail Collins said: "In this case it was a small lock knife but the size doesn’t matter."

    The so-called "drug phone" in the Meadows of Nottingham has been removed by BT.

    The firm faced pressure to scrap the phone box after it was suggested that the reason it was the most used pay phone in Nottinghamshire, was due to it being largely used to organise drug deals.

    The Bridges Community Trust, which had urged BT to remove the phone, welcomed the news and said the area would be "more pleasant and family-friendly" without it.

    BT said the removal was part of its plans to introduce new technology across the city with enhanced support for people with speech and hearing issues.

    HS2 will cause "lethal, catastrophic damage" to Long Eaton, councillors have said.

    At a long and passionate meeting last night, Conservative and Labour councillors agreed the current plans for HS2 - which include building a viaduct above the town - would cause major damage to Long Eaton's economy and its people.

    But they were split as to whether they should ask for changes or oppose the new railway outright.

    One of the Conservatives' most senior councillors, Mike Wallis, split from his party leaders, saying: "I can't keep quiet any longer. I hate HS2."

    The council will now put a range of suggestions to HS2 in the hope of lessening the line's impact on the town.

    A 39-year-old man has been arrested after a woman's body was found at a house in Derbyshire.

    Paramedics made the discovery at a property in Alfred Street, South Normanton, at about 10:00 yesterday, following a 999 call.

    Detectives have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

    Traffic was stopped in both directions of the M1 a little earlier due to a pair of horses running loose.

    It happened between junctions 21a and 22 at about 07:30. The animals have now been removed and vehicles allowed to continue on their way.
