    Police investigating a serious assault in Coalville yesterday evening have arrested a man.

    The victim, a 31-year-old man, was found with injuries to his face and body in Cropston Drive just before 20:30.

    He was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary where he remains. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

    A 32-year-old man has been arrested and remains in police custody. An area is cordoned off while police investigate.

    Firefighters are battling a fire in a Nottinghamshire village business that is "well-alight".

    They were called to a two-floor business on High Road in Carlton in Lindrick.

    A spokesman for the fire service said they do not believe anyone has been injured and they think the fire started inside the building.

    A paraglider has been airlifted to hospital after being rescued from Mam Tor in the Peak District.

    The male casualty was stretchered to the air ambulance by volunteers at Buxton Mountain Rescue Team and Edale Mountain Rescue Team.

    He was taken to the major trauma centre at Sheffield Northern General Hospital. The extent of his injuries have not been revealed.

    A peregrine family living on Leicester Cathedral is about to get a little bit bigger.

    The couple now have three eggs to look after. Last year two falcons grew up from the four eggs laid.

    Four years on after the reinterment of Richard III, the king's effect is still being felt.

    The discovery of the king in the car park has helped bring in more than £59 million to Leicester's economy, experts have said.

    Archeologist Richard Buckley worked on the project. He says the king has helped to put Leicester on the global map.

    "We're now much more well known than we used to be. Many members of the Richard III group have been all over the world doing talks about the discovery... and also they are all coming to Leicester as well."

    The most senior official responsible for Derby's A52 roadworks has left the authority.

    In February, the council revealed the project was expected to cost £42 million, instead of the original £15 million.

    Auditors found Christine Durrant, the deputy chief executive, knew of the financial problems five months before politicians were told.

    The council says she's "decided to look for new challenges" and said it supported her decision.

    Members of the University and College Union will be holding a demonstration today at the University of Nottingham.

    The union believes that casual teaching staff who work at the university are being "inadequately paid and supported for their work".

    As part of the mass lobby to be held at the university this afternoon, they will be delivering a signed petition that shows their suggested changes.

    A report about the custody suites run by Nottinghamshire Police found they are "disorganised and at times chaotic".

    Government inspectors said that since their last checks "too little progress has been made".

    Problems include cell call bells, for prisoners to ask for help, being ignored or even muted and staff punishing detainees in "unjustified and potentially unfair" ways.

    Nottinghamshire Police says a new suite is being built in Nottingham and it sees significantly more detainees than other neighbouring forces.

    A rare bumblebee could be saved by planting thousands of bilberry bushes in the Peak District, park authorities hope.

    The bilberry is a vital food source for the bilberry bumblebee, but the plant has suffered from grazing, which has in turn lowered numbers of the bee.
