  1. Why will some people need ID to vote?published at 08:40 British Summer Time 17 April 2019

    BBC News

Voters in some areas of the country - including Broxtowe, Derby and North West Leicestershire - will need ID when they go to polling stations on 2 May.

It's part of a scheme across 10 areas of England being trialled at the local council elections.

Critics said the scheme would deny people their democratic right and was unnecessary because fraud is low.

But what is the trial and why is it being carried out?
