    Commuters are having to wait more than ten minutes longer than ten years ago on some lines because of heavy traffic, Trentbarton has said.

    It claims some of its Nottingham and Derby routes take a third longer than they did in 2009, with "huge volumes" of sole-occupancy cars, and said this "can't continue".

    They called on the councils to give them priority on lanes and traffic lights in a bid to get more people to use their service than drive themselves in.

    Nottingham City Council said it already has 12 miles of bus lanes and along with Derby is looking to create bus routes on the A52. Derby City Council said it has invested millions to improve bus transport.

    Morgan Bowler, 13, has gone missing from the Eastwood area of Nottinghamshire.

    He was last seen at around 15:00 on Wednesday.

    He is of slim build and is about 5ft 4ins tall, with dark brown hair and was last seen wearing a grey hoodie, black jeans and trainers.

    A small tractor has been completely destroyed by fire at a cemetery in Leicestershire.

    Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze, at Market Bosworth Cemetery at about 10:30, was thought to have been caused by mechanical failure. Nobody was injured.

    Police are concerned for the safety of a woman who went missing yesterday.

    Rebecca Saint, 28, is described as slim build, 5ft 9in tall, has shoulder length straight hair with a tattoo on the left side of her neck.

    She was last seen wearing jeans, an orange top and a green parker coat.

    The company due to take over the East Midlands rail franchise this summer has unveiled the branding it plans to use.

    Dutch-owned Abellio will replace East Midlands Trains as operator of the franchise from August.

    The firm has pledged to invest £600m in new trains and upgrades to existing trains.

    It said the introduction of the new branding will be "gradual", with trains rebranded in stages between 2020 and 2022.

    A 33-year-old woman has been charged , externalwith stealing from several shops in Worksop.

    Nottinghamshire Police said items including washing detergent, coffee and a child's dress, were taken from Co-op, One Stop and Select and Save in the town earlier this month.

    The woman was also charged with an assault and robbery after cash and a phone was stolen in Garside Street, Worksop, on 15 June.

    She is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 17 July.

    Two men had to be rescued from a car which hit the back of a bus at speed in Ashby Road, Loughborough in the early hours of this morning.

    Firefighters put out a fire in the car and the men - one of whom had suffered head injuries - were taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.

  12. Listeria outbreak: Inquest to open into Derby deathpublished at 08:10 British Summer Time 21 June 2019

    An inquest into the suspected listeria death of a cancer patient at the Royal Derby Hospital is due to open today.

    Ian Hitchcock, 52, from Crich, was being treated at the hospital after being diagnosed with liver cancer last month.

    In a statement, the businessman's family said he contracted listeria and was transferred to Nottingham City Hospital, where he died on 8 June.

    Derby Coroner's Court said Mr Hitchcock's death was being treated as a "possible listeria case".

    Signs on the M1 southbound between J26 and J25 wrongly showed three lanes were shut, causing delays of an hour this morning.

    Traffic information websites reported six miles of tailbacks at around 07:00 this morning, which have since cleared.

    Highways England's regional traffic operations manager Matthew Pates said: “This is actually an extremely rare occurrence and our technology is usually very reliable.

    "We’d remind drivers that signage is there to keep them and others safe and as such I’d like to remind them to make sure they still comply with our message signs in the future.”
