    Sarah Hollis, 53, of New Ollerton, Nottinghamshire, used Your Questions Answered to ask: "My son is at university, he is registered to vote here in Notts at our home address. Please could you tell me how to organise a postal / proxy vote?"

    To vote by post, a postal vote application form must be downloaded, external, printed, filled in and sent to the electoral services team at your local council before 17:00 on 26 November.

    In Northern Ireland, the deadline is 21 November.

    To vote by proxy for a specific election, this form, external must be filled out and sent to the electoral services team at your local council.

    Although voting multiple times is a criminal offence, students can be registered to vote at both their home address and their university address.

    You must be registered in the area where you will be on the day of the vote, if you are planning to cast your ballot in person.

    If you want to vote in an area where you are registered but won't be living, you can arrange to vote by proxy or post.

    The person voting on your behalf must go to your polling station.

    The deadline to apply for a proxy vote in England, Scotland or Wales is 4 December but for Northern Ireland it is 21 November.

    There are other types of proxy votes which can be applied for - a permanent or long-term proxy vote, or an emergency proxy vote, which must be something you were not aware of before the normal proxy vote deadline. More information about proxy voting can be found here, external.

    A landlord was bitten in the stomach, external while detaining a burglary suspect he discovered early this morning.

    Darren McKechnie, who runs The Chequers Inn in Chilwell, said he acted "instinctively" when he tackled the suspect, who he says was attacking a fruit machine with a slab at about 05:00.

    The 48-year-old, who only had knee replacement surgery six weeks ago, said: "He was in my premises and it's happened to so many pubs around here the landlords are getting tired of it. It was just instinct.

    "I held his arms by the wrist and lay on top of him. I'm 18st and I'm not easy to shift."

    Police arrived and arrested a 46-year-old man on suspicion of burglary and assault.

    Det Sgt Rick Ellis said: "Although we would never suggest people tackle burglars, this was a brave act to confront and detain a man following a break-in at his pub."

    A 78-year-old woman suffered multiple broken bones when she was hit by a suspected drink-driver in Heanor.

    The 40-year-old female driver was arrested on on suspicion of drink-driving, driving without a licence and driving without due care and attention.

    She has been released while investigations continue. The 78-year-old woman remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

    It has been 25 years since the first National Lottery draw was broadcast live from the BBC in London.

    It was hosted by Noel Edmonds while Anthea Turner was in Nottingham providing inserts from the intu Victoria Centre.

    Over the years Nottinghamshire has seen more than 700 people claim prizes of £50,000 or more.

    In 2012, the county had two big winners - Cassey Carrington and Matt Topham from Stapleford won just over £45m in the EuroMillions, followed by Gareth and Catherine Bull from Mansfield Woodhouse who won more than £40m.

    Later that year, Jim and Maureen Emerton from Carlton won £4.5m and Alan and Kim Elliott, from Aspley, won £1m.

    David Brown was living in Eastwood when he and his family won £1m three years ago.

    "I was scanning the QR code on my iPad and I didn't believe it so I switched it off and scanned it again and again," he said.

    "I told my daughter and she didn't believe it either, so she downloaded the app herself and scanned it on her phone."

    Since winning, he and his family have bought a holiday lodge in Lincolnshire and moved house.

    His daughter, who also got a share of the money, used it to pay for fertility treatment. She is now seven months pregnant.

    A man has died after collapsing in Nottingham city centre this morning.

    Police were called to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service at Milton Street just before 08:30.

    The man was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre for treatment and later pronounced dead.

    His cause of death has not yet been established but police said it is not thought to be suspicious.

    A 25-year-old man has been arrested after two pedestrians were hit by a car in Hucknall over the weekend.

    It happened on Portland Road at about 19:00 on Sunday.

    A 69-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman were taken to hospital for treatment of injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

    The man was arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and resisting arrest.

    Police have confirmed there were no injuries reported in the fire in Leicester overnight.

    The blaze started at a commercial garage on Melton Road at about 01:00.

    A number of properties were evacuated and some road closures were in place.

    People have since been allowed to return home and most roads have reopened. However, Broadhurst Street remains closed.

    Fire crews are at the scene of a "large" blaze at a commercial garage in the Belgrave area on Leicester.

    Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service sent nine fire engines to Melton Road just after 01:00 following a report of smoke and a burning smell.

    So far they've been able to contain the fire and stop any further damage to neighbouring properties.

    Broadhurst Street is currently closed and crews are continuing to fight the fire.
