A "predatory" man who raped a woman on her way home from a night out in Nottingham city centre has been jailed for 14-and-a-half years.

Nottinghamshire Police said Michael Doyle approached the woman, who was making her way home after leaving a nightclub, on 20 February.

He offered to walk her home before sexually assaulting her in an alleyway and stealing a bag that contained her phone, the force added.

Doyle, 28, of Rodney Street in Birkenhead, was located and arrested after the iCloud of his victim's stolen phone was logged into and traced to a pub in Derbyshire.

He was subsequently charged and admitted two counts of rape and one of robbery. He was jailed at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday.

Four crews were needed to deal with a major fire at a barn in Sutton on Trent at the weekend.

About 100 tonnes of baled straw and agricultural machinery were involved in the blaze, which broke out at about 01:30 on Sunday.

The firefighting effort took several hours and involved a JCB provided by a local plant hire firm being used to turn the bales over so crews could get water deep inside.

Bronwyn Ward, who lives next door and raised the alarm, said: "I was woken by loud popping and banging and went outside to investigate.

"The flames were absolutely huge and the entire height of the barn.

"I was so surprised when I went running down the road that no-one was there and none of the surrounding houses even had any lights on.

"Everyone worked together to get the residents of the farm up and fire service was excellent."

PC Lewis Cragg, who is leading the investigation, said the theft from the ambulance occurred while it was "momentarily left unattended" as a patient was dropped off at the hospital.
