Extinction Rebellion campaigners have put up "crime scene" tape at Nottinghamshire County Council's headquarters.
Pictures of the "Climate Crime Scene" tape wound around several of the entrances to County Hall in West Bridgford have been posted on social media.
It is part of an ongoing protest to push the council to declare a climate emergency in the run-up to next week's local elections.
The group wants the council to commit to opposing incinerators and removing pensions investments in the fossil fuel industry.
The authority said it was making no comment at this time.

Police are trying to trace a man after another man was stabbed when he met a potential buyer of items he had advertised online.
Nottinghamshire Police said the victim was stabbed in the back of his shoulder on a towpath along the River Leen, in Radford, Nottingham between 14:30 and 15:30 on Wednesday.
The man ran off with the goods and the 20-year-old went to hospital where he was given stitches before being discharged,
Det Sgt Andy Buxton said: "The towpath where this happened is quite heavily used so we’re urging anyone who was in that area around the time and who saw anything to please get in touch with us."
He said the suspect has been described as middle-eastern, aged about 24, 6ft 2in tall and of a muscular build.
He also had dark hair, a sharp defined beard and was wearing a dark-coloured tracksuit.
Officers also urged people to protect themselves when selling goods online, for example by speaking to the person first, using PayPal rather than cash, and to avoid meeting at home or in a secluded location.
After a bright start, patchy cloud and scattered showers will push in through the afternoon.
There should still be a few sunny spells across the day though with light winds.

Most of those affected by a burst water pipe in Gedling have now had their water supply returned.
Severn Trent said it was aiming to have all remaining properties back on "very shortly".
A spokesperson for the company said: “We’re pleased to say the majority of customers’ water supplies are now back on.
"We’re really sorry to those who are still affected and our engineers are moving water around our network, operating valves and will be using tankers to inject water directly into the network to help get supplies on.
"The pipe that’s burst is one of our larger pipes so we’re really thankful for everyone’s patience while we continue to work on this complicated repair."

Firefighters were called to Wollaton Park yesterday afternoon after reports of a fallen tree on fire.
The fire service said they "discovered a deep-seated fire within the trunk of a fallen 300-year-old tree".
While they were able to stop the fire from spreading to nearby woodland, they could not stop the fire deep in the trunk.
It said a team from Wollaton Hall and Nottingham City Council was also on site.
It is unknown how the fire started.

BBC Radio Derby is celebrating its 50th anniversary today.
The station officially went on air for the first time on 29 April 1971 with programmes presented by Mike Warr and Jackie Brogan.
However, broadcasting had already started two months earlier due to the "Rolls-Royce crash" as the receivers were called in to the then flailing company.
Over the years the station has enjoyed numerous successes.
In 1979, presenters Paul Baird and Simon Shaw entered The Guinness Book of Records with a non-stop 45-hour programme.
More recently it was named Station of the Year at the Sony Radio Awards in 2007, 2010 and 2011.
Listeners have been sharing their memories of the station including presenters like Colin Bloomfield, who died six years ago, and classic moments from its coverage of Derby County.
David Black has been a listener for more than 40 years and remembers playing cricket with several of the station presenters - pretending to be on the station's weather department.
"We never won anything," he said.
He rates the station as "better than ever" and said it had helped many people cope with the coronavirus pandemic.
Nottinghamshire Police say Jason Guzikowski abused the girl over a number of years.

It said work was continuing to get the water supply back to normal for everyone else.
A large pipe at a construction site on Lambley Lane burst overnight and caused issues for residents in the NG3 and NG4 postcode areas this morning, as well as closing three schools.
If successful the villagers are planning to plant more than 5,000 trees on the field in Foolow.

Severn Trent workers are on site at a burst water pipe in Nottinghamshire, which has forced three schools to close and left people in the area without a supply.
Teams were "digging to excavate the pipe" in Gedling in order to start repairs and were using tankers to help get the water supply restored.
A statement said: "We’re really sorry about this and it will be our absolute priority to make sure that everyone’s water is back on as quickly as possible."
It said bottled water is also being delivered to their "most vulnerable customers".
Severn Trent confirmed the pipe that had burst was on the construction site for the Gedling Access Road.
It said it would "be fully investigating the cause of the burst, but the priority right now is to get everything back to normal".
The new road is being created to provide a link between the B684 Mapperley Plains and the A612 Nottingham Road.
