Alan Hardwick has congratulated his successor, Marc Jones, after he was voted in as Police and Crime Commissioner earlier today.
The Conservative candidate beat off UKIP's Victoria Ayling in a second-round battle with a total of 48,033 votes.
Mr Hardwick, who was voted in four years ago, said he wished Mr Jones the very best for the future.
"It's a big job and I wish the new Commissioner the very best for the future. Lincolnshire Police is a force that, nationally and locally, punches well above its weight," said Mr Hardwick.
"I have no doubt that, with a strong and determined PCC to continue the campaign for fairer funding, the county will continue to be a safe place in which to live and work."

Mr Jones said his biggest challenge would be to fully understand the different aspects of the role.
He said: "There's certain information as a candidate you're not privy to, so it will be a huge learning curve to fully understand what needs to be done.
"With regard to funding, I've already had meetings with the Home Office and the Prime Minister to make sure I get a fair formula for Lincolnshire."

The government has made a major concession in its plans to make all schools in England become academies.
Schools judged to be outstanding by Ofsted inspectors will no longer be compelled to take academy status - and no small rural school will be forced to join a Multi-Academy Trust.
Last month, Lincolnshire County Councillor Patricia Bradwell wrote to the Education Secretary questioning the policy.
