Aquariums are one of the places where a face covering became mandatory on Saturday along with attractions like museums and places of worship due to the pandemic.

Staff say things are slowly getting back to normal, but they are limiting the number of visitors who are allowed to dive in the tanks as part of the aquarium's Dive Experience so they don't stress the animals out.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the changes to the rules on face coverings in England earlier this month when he also postponed the further easing of lockdown due to the spike in virus cases.

Those who break the law on wearing masks in England face fines of up to £100, with the PM saying there would be a "greater police presence" to ensure the rules were being followed.

    Christine in the tuk tuk

Until now, the vehicles haven't been allowed - but at a licensing committee this week it was agreed they would be a welcome attraction.

Christine Kimbrell from Holla Tuk Tuk is behind the application. She says her plans to offer pre-bookable rides going up and down the city centre would improve the tourism offer.

She now needs to apply for a licence.

Councillors had some concerns over passenger weight, with estimates the tuk tuk would be able to carry up to two 13 stone passengers.

But Ms Kimbrell said care would be taken with heavier passengers and there could be the option of a second trip at no extra cost.

She said had hoped to get started this summer despite Covid-19 but if not, she would start the business next April.

Three flats on Bull Ring have been issued with closure notices meaning its now a criminal offence for anyone to enter apart from the landlord.

Officers said it was a "very difficult case" because of coronavirus restrictions.

Insp Sarah Constantine said: “A great deal of work has gone into this very difficult case by all involved including our partner agencies and the public who supported us to achieve this outcome.

"All have gone above and beyond and their sheer diligence, perseverance and tenacity have made it happen.

"They should rightly be proud of what they have done as a team, it is a privilege to work with them.”

City of Lincoln Council says the Environment Agency has been alerted and signage has been placed around the park.

Some types of blue-green algae are toxic to humans and animals and people are being warned to stay away from the lake while the algae is in bloom.

The algae blooms occur naturally in non-flowing fresh water and dissipate in their own time.

The council says it will continue to monitor the situation until it is certain the water is safe.

The proposals were submitted by Jonathan Crossley for the bulding off Horncastle Road in Martin

The 16-acre site will include a chapel, a new pond and a picnic site for users of the Viking Way and Spa Trails, which runs between Woodhall Spa and Horncastle.

Planning officers said there was evidence of a need for an additional crematorium within the district and that the site was an acceptable location.

The central part would contain the chapel, a covered walkway, an entrance lobby and offices. Between the offices and covered walkway would be a courtyard flower garden.

Objectors had raised concerns about the safety of the B1191 with a “blind bend” nearby.

There were also concerns over a conflict between potential funerals and the tourism aspect of the Viking Way through that area.

The building is planned for the former Horncastle Residential College off Mareham Road and will be shared with Boston College.

Councillor Helen Matthews said: “It’s long overdue for improvement and renovation, and I think it will bring ELDC more into the 21st century in that offer, a more economically viable building, it will add to the economy. There are more plus points than negatives.”

But Councillor Terry Aldridge told the Local Democracy Reporting Service: “It’s an absolute waste of money when we’re in such dire straights and with what’s coming. This is a very bad decision and in years to come people will look upon what I’ve said and say yeah, you were right.”

Council leaders have said the project will be cost neutral due to the sale and redevelopment of both Skegness Town Hall and Tedder Hall, in Manby.

  18. Coronavirus: Arts centre to remain closed until springpublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 6 August 2020

Lincoln Performing Arts Centre will not reopen until spring 2021 at the earliest because of the pandemic, it's been announced.

All events currently on sale will be either postponed or cancelled, and customers will be contacted to arrange exchanges or refunds.

Artistic director Craig Morrow said: “It's a heartbreaking decision but one that has become increasingly inevitable as we struggle to reconcile our business with the ongoing impact of COVID-19. LPAC is entirely reliant on ticket sales and traded income to cover the cost of its operations and it is simply not possible to deliver the same scale of activity this year with social distancing in place."

He said it doesn't mean that centre will be mothballed, and that there are plans to offer an alternative pop-up programme of events and activities inside the venue, around the city, and online.

A re-imagined Christmas show called A Distant Christmas will take audiences around the city and will hopefully merge Augmented Reality technology with live performance.
