    An arts venue will shut as a result of the pandemic and loss of funding, with the loss of 19 jobs.

    Lincoln Drill Hall, which hosted concerts, comedy shows and community events, closed its doors in March due to lockdown.

    In August, the city council voted unanimously to end the £187,000 yearly grant to the venue.

    Phil Hamlyn Williams, chair of trustees, said he was "desperately sad". "We've got 19 lovely people who've worked together for a long time, and are now facing a bleak future," he said.

    "I'm afraid it is the virus - so many arts venues across the country have closed.

    "We were kept sort of alive by the furlough scheme but with it coming to an end at the end of October that was curtains."

    A mother from Lincolnshire whose son had a severe allergic reaction after eating a takeaway says more needs to be done to crack down on those who don’t follow the rules on allergies.

    Joe Horner, 17, was rushed to hospital struggling to breathe after eating a curry that was later found to contain peanuts.

    His mum Maria says she reported what happened to Lincolnshire Trading Standards and was left disappointed with the response.

    Lincolnshire Trading Standards says it carried out a thorough investigation and takes the issue of allergens seriously.

    The incident comes on the back of several similar high-profile cases which led to new laws being drawn up.

    From next summer all food will have to be clearly labelled and anything that's pre-packaged will have to include all ingredients.

    A secondary school in Grantham has closed after several cases of coronavirus.

    Bluecoat Meres Academy has now confirmed it had seven cases between last Tuesday and Friday.

    Students won't be returning until next Tuesday.

    A deep clean at the school will be carried out.

    An appeal's being made for information after a burglary at Just Cuts hairdressers in Skegness.

    Police say the doors of the premises on Lumley Road in the town were forced and damaged just after midnight.

    The offenders returned to the property around 20 minutes later, entered the hair salon and stole a jar of money which contained staff tips and charity collection boxes.

    Police want to speak to the two men in the images who they believe may have information.

    It's hoped Skegness could become a filming location for a BBC drama.

    The seaside town features in the latest book in the Strike detective series called Troubled Blood.

    The series is written by Harry Potter author JK Rowling under her pen name Robert Galbraith.

    It's believed the writer visited the resort whilst researching it.

    The previous novels have been turned into popular TV series.

    The number of Coronavirus cases in West Linsdey has tripled compared to last week.

    There are plans to cut the speed limit on a section of road between Sleaford and Lincoln.

    It would mean the speed limit on the A15 from Holdingham Roundabout to just past the entrance to the village of Leasingham would go from 60mph to 50mph.

    Figures show drivers are doing an average of 55mph on that stretch of road, and there have been 14 injuries from collisions there in the past five years.

  15. Arrest after man 'pulled from car and assaulted'published at 13:26 British Summer Time 5 October 2020

    An investigation's under way in Lincoln after a man said he was pulled from his car and assaulted by a group of men in the city.

    The 38-year-old driver was in his car waiting to turn right from Beech street onto Newark Road at about 15:30 on Saturday when the incident happened, police say.

    The man was not seriously injured, according to Lincolnshire Police.

    A 29-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of causing Actual Bodily harm.

    Anyone who saw what happened, or who has information about the incident, is being asked to contact the Lincolnshire force.

    It's while emergency services recover an HGV.

    The closure could be in place for up to two hours, it's thought.

    Two teenagers have been arrested after a 15cm knife was seized by police in Lincoln City Centre.

    Officers detained a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old on Friday after it was thought they were behaving suspiciously.

    Supt Paul Timmins, from Lincolnshire Police, said: "Carrying a weapon of any kind, let alone one of this size and nature, can have utterly devastating consequences.

    Retailers at Gainsborough's Marshall's Yard Shopping Centre say a six-week road closure could have a serious impact on trade at what would usually be the busiest time of the year.

    Two-and-a-half miles of the A159 is to be excavated and rebuilt, meaning it will be shut on weekdays from 12 October.

    Centre manager Alison Shipperbottom says it's the worst possible time in the run-up to Christmas and wants the work delayed until January.
