    The director of Butlin's Lincolnshire holiday park has welcomed his last holidaymaker before he retires after about 30 years.

    Chris Baron has been in charge of the resort in Ingoldmells near Skegness since the 1990s.

    He's just finished his last week and says now's the time to let someone else take over so he can spend more time with his wife and grandchildren.

  2. Bourne incident: 'No suspicious circumstances'published at 16:11 British Summer Time 2 October 2020

    Police investigating an incident in which a woman was found unconscious in Bourne say they are "satisfied that there are no suspicious circumstances".

    The woman was taken to hospital after she was discovered when emergency services were called to North Street at about 20:00 on Wednesday.

    A 55-year year old man was arrested in connection with the incident but has since been released with no further action.

  3. Radio appeal nets new home for RAF fire engine collectionpublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 2 October 2020

    The country's only Ministry of Defence firefighting museum has been found a possible new home after it's founder issued an appeal for help.

    Steve Shirley, who runs the Museum of RAF Firefighting, appealed for help after the lease on the warehouse where the collection of 52 antique fire engines is currently housed at in Scunthorpe was due to come to an end.

    Following Mr Shirley's appearance on BBC Radio Lincolnshire, Richard Walsh, the managing director of Thurlby Motors, came forward to offer the collection a new home at Alford.

    Mr Shirley said: "We're very very grateful indeed and we'd love to explore the possibility."

    The collection had been housed at RAF Scampton until 2017 when it had to move as space was needed to organise an airshow.

    A van driver has admitted causing the deaths of two "utterly devoted parents" by dangerous driving while he had excess drugs in his system.

    Robert Bateman, 36, and his 35-year-old wife Paula died when their Ford Focus crashed head-on into an Iveco Daily van on the A142 between Chatteris and Mepal in Cambridgeshire just after 20:00pm on 3 September.

    Their daughters Lexi, 10, and 18-month-old Elizabeth were also in the car, and survived.

    Luke Norton, of Nocton Park Road, Nocton, Lincoln, admitted at Peterborough Crown Court to causing the deaths of Mr and Mrs Bateman by dangerous driving.

    The 31-year-old also pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle with an excess amount of the drug benzoylecgonine - the main metabolite of cocaine - in his blood.

    Norton will be sentenced at the same court on 16 October.

  6. Fatal crash aircraft's engine 'had defects' report findspublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 2 October 2020

    An investigation into a light aircraft crash in which a "devoted" husband and father died has found the plane's engine was in poor condition.

    Simon Barrett, 55, from Boston, died when his single-seater plane crashed at Mavis Enderby, near Spilsby, Lincolnshire, on 15 December.

    A report by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch, external found the engine had "several defects including a crack in the cylinder head."

    The report concluded the aircraft "suffered a partial engine failure shortly after taking off".

    A statement issued after the crash on behalf of Mr Barrett's family, said: "Simon was a family man, a devoted, supportive and loving husband and dad.

    "Flying was Simon's number one hobby and he took every opportunity to take to the calm and peace of the sky whenever the weather permitted.".

  8. Two killed in crash near Bostonpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 1 October 2020

    Two men have been killed in a two-car crash near Boston.

    The collision, involving a red Vauxhall Vectra and a blue Honda Estate, happened on Hale Lane, in Firthville, at about 11:40.

    Lincolnshire Police say the drivers of both vehicles, a a man in his 30s from Boston and a man in his 50s from Skegness, died at the scene.

    No-one else was injured in the crash.

    The force has appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.

    A chart-topping pop band, orchestral stars and a huge choir of community singers have joined forces to help BBC Radio Lincolnshire mark Lincolnshire Day and the station’s 40th birthday.

    The unique project saw the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra combine with Scouting for Girls and more than 100 voices from across the county to make up Lincolnshire’s Biggest Choir.

    Everyone recorded their part in isolation, but they’ve been mixed together and combined with iconic Lincolnshire scenes to produce an emotional celebration of the county.

    A woman is being treated in hospital after being found unconscious in Bourne.

    Lincolnshire Police say the woman was found when officers were called to North Street at about 20:00 on Wednesday.

    The force say she is in a serious condition in hospital.

    A 55-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

    Police say they are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard a disturbance in the area between 19:00 and 20:00.

  12. Lincolnshire coast to get £1.25m for regeneration schemespublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 1 October 2020

    Government funding of £1.25m is to be used for two major regeneration projects on the Lincolnshire coast.

    The money will be used to pedestrianise part of the Skegness foreshore.

    Cash will also be used to help with the work to demolish the 1950s Colonnade in Sutton on Sea to make way for a development including a exhibition space, performance area and viewing decks.

    A clothing donation point in Boston has been forced to close.

    The donation point in the car park of the Asda store has been shut after people were seen rummaging through the items and throwing them around.

    Boston Borough Council say people are also dumping their rubbish by the collection bins.

    A memorial plaque honouring those who fought and died in World War One has been replaced after vandals damaged the original.

    The plaque, in the memorial shelter of Wyndham Park in Grantham, was installed in 2008 but was damaged beyond repair last year.

    A replacement plaque was unveiled on Tuesday.

    Secretary of the Wyndham Park Forum, Elizabeth Bowskill, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the new plaque, which will be admired by all those who visit the park every day."

    Venues across Lincolnshire will be lit up in red this evening to highlight the crisis facing the live events scene as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

    The International Bomber Command Centre, Lincoln Performing Arts Centre and the Engine Shed are among the venues involved in the event being organised by #wemakeevents.

    A similar event in August saw more than 300 venues across the UK turn their lights red.

    Campaigners say that without support from government the "entire entertainment supply chain is at risk of collapse".

    Luke Maxwell, technical manager at the Engine Shed, said: "By next year I don't know if I can even be in this industry anymore, and it's the same for many many other people."

    Plans have been submitted to build 21 homes on a former council depot site in Metheringham.

    North Kesteven District Council’s housing company, Lafford Homes, wants to build the homes on the site in Sleaford Road.

    Documents submitted to the authority by Lindum Group on behalf of the council said the housing will include a two bedroom bungalow as well as two and three bed semi-detached houses and a series of one bed flats.

    It said six of the homes will be classed as “affordable”.

    “The proposed development is of a high quality design that responds to the sites conditions and respects the surrounding area,” said the report.

    The University of Lincoln has responded to criticism from students upset at having to pay full tuition fees despite the impact of coronavirus restrictions.

    Politics student Maddie Maclean-Freeman says he doesn't feel it is fair to pay £9,000-a-year when some of the teaching is online and students can't use all the facilities on campus.

    She said: "You aren't just paying for your degree, which you have to work hard for, you're paying for the facilities to be at university, the support that you kind of hope to get from university, which obviously we're not really getting at this point."

    However, Deputy Vice Chancellor Simon Parkes says he believes students will still have a good experience.

    "We're still doing face to face teaching," he said.

    "Yes, some of our lectures will be online, but social activities will still be available for them.

    "Their residences will still be there and operating as near normally as possible. So I think it will still be a great experience for students."

    A fairground worker who preyed on a 15-year-old girl has been jailed after admitting sex charges at Lincoln Crown Court.

    The court heard yesterday how Matthew Spry first contacted his victim on the social media platform Snapchat and later had sex with her even though he knew she was underage.

    He also sent her a graphic video of himself.

    The girl, who was described in court as "vulnerable", showed the video to a support worker, leading to Spry's arrest.

    Sentencing him to three years and four months in jail, Judge John Pini told Spry he "knew, or very quickly came to know, that she was under age" - despite telling police he thought she was 16.

    Spry, who's now 28, and lives on Boston Road, Sleaford has also been given a sexual harm prevention order.
