Mr Nuttall stood in the seat after the town recorded the UK's highest pro-Brexit majority in last year's referendum.
However, UKIP saw its vote drop from 14,645 in 2015 to 3,308 this time round.

Mr Percy said “It didn’t seem to chime with what we were hearing on the doorstep”.

The seat is currently held by Labour's Nic Dakin with a majority of 3,134.
