  2. Village's 'cathedral church' in line for £10,000 refurbpublished at 12:15 British Summer Time 27 July 2017

    A church which was built in 1320 on a "regal scale" is to get a major facelift after winning a £10,000 lottery grant.

    The 14th century St Andrew's Church in Heckington, near Sleaford, will be transformed, according to the group of volunteers who submitted the bid.

    Villagers say the church and village had royal connections in the 1300s leading to the construction of a building of "almost cathedral proportions and decoration" which has been difficult for the community to maintain.

    The project is due to be launched at the Heckington Show this weekend.

    A Lincolnshire company says it's hoping to lead the way in a recycling revolution.

    Louth-based Luxus Ltd has received nearly £1.3m in EU funding.

    It will help them to produce a coloured pigment for plastic waste which will be recognised at waste sorting plants.

    The company says the new project will mean a lot more plastic can be recycled.

    A binman in Boston has had to have medical checks after a bag of used hypodermic needles turned up in a recycling bin.

    Now the council says it won't empty any blue bins contaminated with anything that shouldn't be in them.

    The binman involved was given the all-clear after being seen by a doctor - but the council says if he hadn't noticed the bag it could have ended up at a recycling centre where waste is sorted by hand.

    A summer attraction in Lincolnshire says it's amazed by how many visitors it's getting.

    A maize maze opened at the weekend at Uncle Henry's farm shop at Grayingham near Gainsborough.

    The picture above shows last year's maze.

    The maize will be used once the season is over - with the crop going into an anaerobic digester to produce power for the farm and its shop.

    Plans to develop the area known as the Lincoln Western Growth Corridor will go before the public later today.

    The City of Lincoln Council wants to create more than 3,000 new homes, a football stadium, shops and offices.

    Officials involved in the project near Skellingthorpe Road say the development is needed to deal with a growing population.

    But there's already some opposition from neighbours who say they haven't been involved in the planning stages.

    For the first time Lincolnshire Police have had to reveal how many times officers have used force during the course of their duties.

    In the three months to June they reported just over 1,500 "uses of force", which equates to half of all arrests made.

    The force is the first in the country , externalto release the figures, so it's not possible to compare them with others.

    But Deputy Chief Constable Craig Naylor (above) says his officers always "think very carefully" about using restraint and force - but it is very often about safety, both for officers and for the suspect.

    Well you might have heard mention of the Big Clean happening in South Kesteven this summer.

    It's to smarten up the district and get rid of litter, weeds and graffiti.

    The council has been asking for your suggestions, external of areas needing a tidy up and so far there have been more than 500 suggestions.

    But it still wants residents and businesses to continue reporting any 'grotspots' to make the 365 square miles look as good as possible.

    Older drivers in Lincolnshire are being urged to consider going on refresher courses.

    It comes as figures reveal there are nearly 2,500 drivers in the county who are 90 or over.

    Nationally the figures have reached record levels at more than 100,000.

    The Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership runs courses for older drivers called Mileage for Life.

  14. Charity fails to get 'puppy farm' licence overturnedpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 26 July 2017

    An animal charity has failed in its bid to overturn a council licence granted to a dog breeding business in Lincolnshire.

    Chancepixies Animal Welfare took on North Kesteven District Council at the High Court over the licence given to the commercial dog breeding centre Little Rascals Pets Limited at Brant Broughton.

    The charity had argued a report into the business had failed to address key issues including whether the dogs were given enough exercise.

    But that was rejected by the court.

  15. Plans for 196 homes next to major Lincolnshire road given green light by councillorspublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 26 July 2017

    Plans for 196 new homes on the edge of a main Lincolnshire A road have been given the go-ahead by councillors, external.

    The proposed development on land between Empingham Road and Tinwell Road in Stamford was approved by South Kesteven District Council’s development control committee on Tuesday, July 25.

    The site will be bounded by the A1 to the west.

  16. Lincoln Parks achieve Green Flag statuspublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 26 July 2017

    Two Lincoln parks have received national awards.

    Hartsholme Country Park and The Arboretum have been recognised among the best green spaces in the country by the Green Flag Award Scheme.

    This is the ninth year Hartsholme (pictured) has received the award.

    The third green space in Lincoln, Boultham Park, is currently undergoing a multi-million pound restoration.

    The city council hope the 50-acre space will achieve Green Flag status upon completion of the work.

    The Lincoln City manager Danny Cowley says he'll remain patient as he tries to bring new players to the club.

    The Imps boss is hopeful of getting in two or three players before the weekend but he says he won't be rushing into signing people:

    In the three months between April and June Lincolnshire Police officers reported 1,572 instances where they used force to restrain an individual.

    This is first time figures of this kind have come out, as police forces from across the country are now required by the Home Office to issue details of the number of times officers have used force in the course of their duties.

    It's aimed at increasing transparency and reassuring the public.

    The president of Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, David Robinson, has died at the age of 89.

    The Trust says he was one of the county's greatest experts on natural history who was devoted to conservation.
